I just upgraded to a core i5 750 @ 2.66, I have 4 GB DDR3 ram, and a 4870 1gb. This PC smokes ever game i have thrown at it, Crysis, GTA 4, Assassins creed, Dragon Age, Stalker Clear Sky. Empire total war, etc..

BUT, for some reason, far Cry 2 will not run well, I get 50-60 FPS, then it drops to 15, is this, my PC should have no trouble running this or any game, anyone know what may be the issue? I am on Win 7 64 bit.

Your problem could be related to Windows 7. There are few who have somehow managed to play it on Win 7, whereas it lags/stutters badly for others. But as of now, Far Cry 2 doesn't support Win 7. We need to wait for proper drivers, or maybe a Patch if possible.

Anyhow, I suggest running the game with 2 cores of your CPU, or maybe even 1/single core. There is again a Memory Leak under Win 7, more on the 64 bit version. So First of all try this: When you launch the game, press ALT-TAB to come back to the desktop, and at the Task manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc), give the farcry2.exe process a LOW priority. First check which priority it is set to, and then lower down it. Now ALT-TAB back to the game, and check for any FPS difference.

Also update DX9 to be on a safer side, and try to force the game to use it via the command line parameter like e.g :

"C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\Far Cry 2\bin\FarCry2.exe" -3dplatform d3d9 -RenderProfile_MaxFps 60.

The above command will also lock the FPS to 60. But you can also type the command gfx_maxfps 60 in the console. Use any high value. For other tips, please read this thread:

Edit: Just check if any of these are installed on your PC e.g. ASUS GamerOSD and SmartDoctor, or any other Mobo's OverClocking tool like 'Eleet'. Uninstall them now. This may not be related to your issue, but I'm just telling that these OC tools as well as any PEN Tab devices, have sometimes known to cause a lag with Far Cry 2. Anyways, If none of the above methods work, then you can always Dual-Boot your PC if you wish, and load XP/Vista whenever you want to play this game.

Hope this helps ?

I should have known not to buy a Ubisoft title for PC, they are garbage, I have over 30 games, every single one runs flawlessly on Vista and 7, Far Cry 2 is the only one, last ubi title i'll ever spend money on.

I don't know why you guys think in a negative way ? Just because 'Win 7' isn't supported, doesn't make this game a Total Flop. Did you try any of the tips ? Few guys are able to play somehow on Win 7. The only downer is the Custom Map DL issue (MP), which doesn't work properly in-game. You need to Manually DL the maps for this. The Single Player version somehow runs fine, even on Win 7.

Else, in the meantime you can always go for Win XP Pro (Dual boot) if you want to enjoy FAR CRY 2, until we get a Patch. Anyhow, that's your wish. I'm not forcing you, nor I'm denying the fact that FC2 doesn't support Win 7. Just trying to convince, that's all.

First of all, this game doesn't support dx10 very well at all (major mouse lag issues to the extreme)(also see my mouse-lag thread), and when win7 came out, wouldn't you think the developers would have done something by now? So I'll have to agree with dabbot somewhat, I should have never purchased this for PC. Other Ubisoft games however, are fine.
