Because they cheat. Is that what you want to hear?
It is possible to see the outline of a spy in EMF. It happens to everyone.

You should try playing a few maps other than Aqua and Club some time. That way these silly little glitches and exploits don't come as such a surprise because you will have experienced them once or twice.

EMF shadow. Doesn't matter how fast your moving or what you have on. If the person playing as merc has the game set at a high enough resolution, he will see you when you pass objects that have a differant EMF value then the spies. Its just another exploit people do becuase they suck.

emf ghosting is the equivalent of seeing spies in camo with MT on.
And yes..i have been sniped while in camo by MT *****s...
To avoid mercs using emf ghosting in the cieling...it is best to keep moving as quickly as possible...towards a vent if possible. Make sure you zig zag and double back if you can because it is very hard to track the a spy like this in EMF. You dont have to move slow because EMF does not pick up the dust from the cielings.
The last thing you want to do is camp...because they will eventually find you.
and btw: It has already been proven that high graphics settings do not really improve the emf ghosting. At normal settings at 1280x768 a sniper can scan the cielings...so it cannot be considered an exploit when most players are capable of doing this.

ok i get that they have super computers but,
if im not moving in middle of ceeling and i just get shot by merc who just came out of launch how come? and im not even using anythin . and he just comes out and gives me hs even tho i wasnt spy trapped...

a sniper with low graphics settings can zoom in to see the ghost better...
the best solution is keep moving...even if he spots you, your still a hard target and you are more likely to lose him while he is in snipe mode.

People with high res liek 1600x1200 with high render see u no matter what i know because i got to play like 3 rounds on a family members comp once and i was on museum and i walked around with EMF and a saw a spy int he ceiling against a wall not moving VERY clear without snipering but best solution as stated is to move fast roll roll roll just do it out of habit.

I thought EMF ghosting depended on graphics settings, but I was mistaken. The post-render quality and resolution will affect the white, luminent parts of EMF, but it has no effect on seeing non-luminent objects (including a spy not using any gadgets/not spy trapped.). What WILL affect seeing EMF shadows is your brightness/gamma settings, but Mr.Mic posted a handy calibration guide so everyone can configure their monitor properly. After that, it's just a matter of having a good eye for it. In other words, you can EMF ghost the same at 800x600 as you can at 1600x1200.
As others have said, be quick through the ceilings. You now know where you are likely to be shot at, so move swiftly through areas you are vulnerable.

When i am watching that vent with EMF (hey ppl do it to me, why can't i do it back? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif) and i see a spy roll out, EMF goes OFF and i start shooting where the dust falls, dust stops falling, i either leave inside cafe, or EMF goes back on.
Depends on what else is happening at the time. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-surprised.gif

A well calibrated monitor will help a little bit, but a high resolution (and higher FPS) help a lot more than good gamma.
The animated grain pattern in EMF looks much finer in a higher resolution, thus less noticable. This makes the whole visual presentation of EMF cleaner and much more detailed.
Higher FPS makes the grain animation cycle faster. As it goes faster, the view becomes less obstructed by the grain, allowing for easier sight of the EMF shadow.

I said is was a combo of gamma and FPS (a lot more gamma dependant than FPS), but since everybody can calibrate and unlock, it's pretty much the same for everyone now.

Mr.Mic sees ghost spies with the best of them, so the resolution won't help much.
I try to play games at 1024x768 just for consistency. When my video card can't handle that res, I know it's time for an upgrade.
