View Full Version : Why Force Us To Do The *** Off Tutorial?

In the demo you could skip the tutorial and I thought that meant you could do it in the full version.
I was thoroughly enjoying the game right up until the bit where they lock you into *** Off.
WHY DID YOU DO THAT??? Give us the choice to switch it off for gods sake. We are the ones paying for the game... we should be the ones to chose how to play the game. I HATE third person. I lose where the damn enemies are and the camera seems to move at random.
VERY dissapointed in this!

To learn you to fly in off mode. Perhaps?

...are you seriously complaining that you're forced to do it for just a few minutes as part of a tutorial?

Thanks for the sarcastic remark. Oh an that's "teach" and not "learn".
If they taught you how to switch between modes that is fine... if they gave you the option to switch between off and on that's fine too. If they gave you the option to skip the tutorial completely that would be perfect.
But to lock you into a mode that the user thoroughly HATES... and not let the user progress until the tutorial is completed?
Sorry but this has made me just cancel my AVI8OR joystick because I can't progress further (I'm disabled and have fine motor control problems and have difficulty with figuring out which way to turn the damned plane in third person movie mode). Usually I end up stalling the plane and then end up crashing. I've played flight sims for years and can do the stall/recover fine when I have the correct perspective. Third person sucks for flight sims.
If the camera was stuck on the tail then I would be loads better. In the cockpit would be even better. Why even force the user to go 3rd person when you turn the assist off is beyond me.
This is the ONLY thing I hate about this game. The ONLY thing. COME ON UBISOFT... LET US SKIP THIS SILLY TUTORIAL. We are the users... let us chose how to play it. This is almost as bad as forcing right handed players to use left handed controls. Actually, no... THIS IS WORSE.

Can you not find someone else just to do that part for you? It should only take a couple of minutes tops then you can enjoy the rest of the game.

It's not even as if forcing you to do it is a new idea.
20 years ago you had to complete a carrier landing before you were allowed to do the missions in F/A-18 Interceptor (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/F/A-18_Interceptor) for the Amiga. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

I'll get someone who doesn't have palsy to do it for me. Sometimes I just wish that devs would stop thinking games players are all 14 year old gamers who have twitch responses. Making a game innaccessible to older players or disabled players is losing them money but they still do it.
I'm 48 years old, can't get out and gaming is an way of relaxing.
OK, let's put it in a way that you may understand, mr Dummy. If a game you like let you play a few levels and you were really getting into it and then the next level it forced you to use your foot to control the 360 controller and you can't play the game any further until you completed that level would you think it was fair? That is how it is to me.
The 3d camera seems wonky, the plane doesn't appear to respond right (I am in a dive and pulling the accellerate trigger and according to the game I'm still in a stall... yeah, right). I'm not the only one who feels this way.
Stupid thing is I LOVE the game other than OFF mode. I'm not ****ging the game... I'm just ****ging the fact that you are forced to use a patently gimmicky 3rd person view. Give me Assist Off with me in the cockpit and it would be freaking AWESOME. But if the camera has to be 3rd person why can't the camera lock onto the target you are locked onto like other flight sims do.
Oh and whoever mentioned the F/A-18 carrier landings... I loved doing those (although I overshot a whole bunch of times and ended up swimming heh). Remember the glitch that you could put the engines into reverse and fly upside down backwards.

The guy is "teaching" you. You are "learning" to fly in the Assistance off mode. So no you are wrong.

in assistance off, the camera IS locked to ur target...
Put the game on easy if you dont want to be challenged by the game.
If you still find it hard, just know that in A-OFF on that mission u need to stall to get behind those planes, u can also try to get away from them and then turn back.
I, enjoyed the mission myself.

It's not something to dwell on, but considering the TC has said he has a disability then it gives his complaint a lot more credit.
Unfortunately assistance off mode is a big part of the game, but plenty of people who have been sticking up for it have been pushing the fact that it's not forced upon the player... so when someone who physically can't play in that mode takes their advice and then has the game force him into it, I'm not surprised he's a bit annoyed.
If he was moaning simply because he doesn't like the viewpoint or something then I'd be flaming away too, but since he's actually having trouble perhaps we should be helping a little, huh?

Thanks Midxcore... Someone gets what I was trying to say.
Strange thing is that I had a larger dose of my morphine to reduce the palsy effect and I did it in one try. Really weird.
After that I had no problems and love the difference in the following mission from the demo.
The one thing that really confuses me with OFF mode is that I should have no problem with it because I flew model aeroplanes and helos in my 20's (and back then the helo's were a right ***** to fly too). Of course at that time my joint hypermobility hadn't meant I was in pain ever hour of every day. I have to have a carrier bag full of prescription meds every four weeks just to live a reasonably normal life.
And do you want to know the big problem I had with the OFF mode and crashing was... the dumb instructor was screaming "NOSE DOWN, ACCELLERATE" when I was pointed right down with my finger on the accellerate trigger and he just wouldn't shut up, insisting I was still in a stall. Instead I ignored him and just pulled the stick back and it recovered. Anyone else found this happen? Perhaps it would have been better if there was an airspeed and attitude indicator on the screen to help you fly the plane.
