Here's the entire text of the award from PC Gamer's March 2004 issue:

"With so many new adventure games backpedaling to the glory days of 2D point-and-click greatness, the future of the genre was forged by the same developer that energized it 10 years ago. Whether you love or hate the Myst series, it's impossible to deny that Uru is an exhilarating innovation that allows you to solve ervironmental puzzles using authentic real-time physics and old-fashioned brain power. Visually stunning, this new Myst game will introduce yet another invention by the time you read this: online adventuring. - Chuck Osborn"

Congratulations Cyan!!!

On the other hand, Computer Gaming World didn't even consider Uru at all. They gave it to "Uplink: Hacker Elite", which isn't even an adventure game by their own admission. The only other nominees were "Broken Sword: Sleeping Dragon", "Dark Fall" and "SpongeBob SquarePants: Employee of the Month". I think Robert Coffey, the review Editor, may have had a hand in this. What were they thinking???

Hi all,
Good news about the PC Gamers award!

Interesting news about Computer Gaming World. It is rather surprising. If they weren't going to give it to Uru, I'm surprised they didn't give it to Broken Sword 3, another 3D adventure game, quite good. Dark Fall is also excellent (and lovely to look at), but maybe Compuer Gaming World didn't want to give their award to a point and click game.

Put that down, you are not in a game, this is my life!

CGW has a history of hating adventure games, and in a way, it's refreshing to see that some prejudices haven't fallen away with Uru's release... unlike Gamespot, Gamespy, and IGN, who all seem to hae taken a complete 180 on their opinion of the Myst genre since Uru's release.

(see, ya put an avatar and some jumps in it and they get all confused http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif)

Still, many congrats to Cyan for the award http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif.

Well, Computer Gaming World likes some adventure games, and doesn't like others. In their February 2004 issue, Broken Sword: The Sleeping Dragon (Broken Sword 3) got 4 out of 5 stars. The Black Mirror got 2 out of 5 stars. Midnight Nowhere got 1 out of 5 stars. Uru got 3 out of 5 stars. The reviews were all done by one reviewer, perhaps their main (only?) adventure game reviewer. Casually extrapolating from very limited data, I'd say they like 3D. I don't have any other copies of Computer Gaming World hanging around - maybe I'll go buy the March 2005 issue.

On their Uru review (Computer Gaming World) - I thought it was very good, just that the overall score was too low, in my opinion.
