After two air attacks while I was deep, much repairs, and counting the dead....I surfaced and was surprised at what the boat looked like.
I have a new appreciation for the Tambor class. Strange the conning tower looks untouched.

After the sun had risen, the dead only look tired.

Back under as more aircraft appear.

The bottom of the hull looks the same as the top, non-existent.

I have only one question, how was the damage accomplished?

I surfaced just about sunset, just broke the water and I was under an aircraft. I didn't do an SD check before breaking the surface...immediately crash dived, at about 90ft the boat was rocked big time. Lots of flooding, but damage quickly under control...about 1/2hr game time at 180ft, hit again...maybe aircraft, maybe a mine. Don't see how an aircraft could find me at 180ft at night in mid 1943.
So two big hits in a short period, it'll look new when i start from my save, but unsure if i have a fuel leak or if tubes will work.

You have got to try to make it back to port to see if your boat gets repaired or you get a new one, or you get retired. Nice pics.

When I loaded my save all the visual damage was gone and I was left with only 17% hull damage. I had asked for a transfer from Fremantle to Brisbane prior to the patrol, and when I do that the first patrol is always to your previous area.
So it was a long patrol from Brisbane to the coast of China, I got into trouble just off Camrahn Bay. Had a decent patrol after that, all together 13 ships down, 12 cargo and a minesweeper...3 cargo and the sweeper were a convoy clean sweep outside Rabual.
Upon return to Brisbane they figured my boat needed an overhaul, so they trimmed down the front of the tower and set me up with SJ-1, JP listening gear, and the radar emissions detector. Plus more guns, of course. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
Now I have the boat I will follow the USS Missouri into Tokyo bay with.

Btw, I heard someone before mention a 'no more yelling' mod, does anyone know where I can find it....I sailed from the coast of China to Brisbane with my crew screaming at me!
Except for the dead, they were just kind of there. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif
I found it...Has anyone used it? It say TMO 2 tested.

Well I can't say I've had a ship with that sort of damage and still sailing.
I've just discovered in the UBoat Campaign, torps that must do 200mph - 1000 yds in 3 secs real time - a bug of course.
BTW be nice in Brisbane - my home Town in R/L You realsie there was a big brawl between the Aussies and the Yanks in Brisbane in WWII http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Brisbane. Even my Mum was engaged at one time to a US serviceman but saw the light and married my Aussie Dad http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif The game maps around Brisbane are reasonably accurate in my opinion and as I have lived in this area all my life.
Just done a recon of Sidney Australia - damn Ubisoft - it is spelt Sydney. Sydney Harbour, one of the biggest natural harbours in the world, is only 80 feet deep according to the game. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif The layout also missed the Sydney Harbour Bridge while the Golden gate gets a show. The Opera House isn't there as it was built much later. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

The damage graphics can be funny. I've had almost my entire boat look like that from two seperate bombs dropped by planes, yet about 30% damage.

Hobart has to be one of the best liberty port I was ever in. We sailed the enterprise right into downtown Hobart.
The residents took us into their home for up to a week, and asked for nothing in return.

Denis, I like how the link you sent said the Australians said US personnel are "Over paid, over sexed, and over here"....
The British used to say the same thing, but US troops would reply that the British were "Under paid, under sexed, and under Eisenhower" http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif

So true http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif
Yeah Blowtanks, Aussies are still grateful for the Coral Sea Battle where the US protected us.
I am on a Vietnam Vets email list run by a lady in Texas and I understand the brothers bit very well - I have great respect for them!
@pnwdom again yes - Hobart is a lovely place but cold in Winter. Most Aussies are like that - very hospitable. I hope you saw Port Arthur - eerie.

Yes, I posted about this bug: see this post about a German Shkval (http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/6421019045/m/5981016049).
