View Full Version : New Glitch: jackal tapes

Guess my playing through of FC2 will never be smooth.
After the new patch I was able to continue from 27% completion. However, when I pick up the 2nd tape in the southern area, the tape won't show in the list, the replay is the same as last tape I picked up.
Internet search revealed someone had similar issue on console version. Not sure about PC version though.

I've experienced a glitch with the Jackal tapes as well, though not the same as you. For me, no matter which tape I find, wherever it's at, it's always the same tape. #9 I think. The one that talks about some kid looking tired and stealing boots off a dead man. Every "new" tape I find plays this exact same message.
My inventory says I have tape #1, #2, #3 and #9. Any new tape I find just plays the message from #9 and does not add itself to my inventory. Maybe it is the same problem as you?

Exactly the same. the 1st tape in the southern region is #9 -- "Stealing Boots".
So we are in the same boat.

a search on google brought me here. i have the same problem. picked up 2 tapes in southern but they ALL play the "kid stealing boots" story. and the tape count stays at 10 even though it should be 11.
people on consoles are having the same problem.

i have far cry 2 with patch 1.3 without the DLC pack on PC.
I got all the tapes before 1.3 patch in my first play-through and didn't have this bug. This is my 2nd time playing. and this is edit me off. sigh
UBI people please fix this. thanks.

Anyone who would like to hear all the tapes without having to search the entire landscape, here ya go
http://reubenblog.typepad.com/
It's also the only way you're going to be able to listen to all of them since the patch 1.03 bug.
I was told as long as you start a new game its fine after patching.
I've only got 6, seems fine so far.
We'll see....

Nope.
I have a first time fresh install of FarCry 2 and patched it to 1.03 immediately before starting my first game. Then I collected all tapes sequentially with no problem up through the "Stealing Boots" tape. Then the next tape I found replayed the "Stealing Boots" tape audio a second time. I will found out if it plays a third time when I find a next tape.
Could be a bug here. How soon would it get fixed?

I have this bug as well. I keep getting the same recording repeated - the one about the boy and boots. I have been auto patching every time FC2 starts. Hopefully there will be a fix/patch which I'm prepared to wait for as I love the way the tapes build the atmosphere.

What bugs were fixed with 1.03 patch?
I'm thinking of rolling back to patch 1.02 and I am wondering what bugs I would see there.

Hmmmmmmmm ....
I just looked it up. 1.03 fixed "random crashes occurring during certain malaria attacks".
I wonder if the crashing during a malaria attack and going back to a save would be better than not hearing the final seven Jackal tapes.

Just found my next Jackal tape ....
And AGAIN it played the "Stealing Boots" interview.
BUG ... BUG ... BUG
How soon for the next patch?
(the saved games system needs inprovement too ... there should be 2 to 4 soft quick saves and separate hard saves ... seems everybody knows that except the save games programmer in FarCry 2)

I really doubt that the tape bug will get patched at this point. IMHO, it's a lot less of an issue than the earlier bugs that v1.03 fixed.

What significant thing did patch 1.03 fix other than what I found above taken from the official FarCry 2 patch site?
If the game crashes during a malaria attack, it's no big deal because you can restart and load your saved game. With this scenario you get to see ALL of the game.
Versus:
Part of the game is MISSING when you play it with this Jackal Tape bug. You cannot hear the next sequential interview tape and it's obvious that something is wrong with the gameplay when the final seven tapes all say the same thing when you find them!
Why do I say that the crash of the game in v.1.02 is no big deal? Because the game still has crashes even with v.1.03! So a few more crashes would be no big deal compared to actual MISSING EVENTS of the game in the game which other players say leads to a nice build up crescendo to the end game by hearing them.

The main thing that v1.03 addressed was the closed door in the faction headquarters, that many peeps complained about. If you couldnt get in there, there was no mission. As well, there was the corrupted save game issue, mostly with consoles.
So, if you couldn't continue playing, i think either of these issues would be worse than hearing the same tape over and over, don't you think?

It wasn't me that ever had the save game or closed door issue, as i've only played the PC version, and i guess im one of the lucky relatively bug frree ones. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

The 1.03 patch didn't address this issue for me! I just got stuck at 73% on a save file that is updated.
I also ran into the Jackal Tape bug in this playthrough.
When will these two bugs (especially the gamestopping one) be addressed?!

I've found that for best results after patching, you should delete all your old saves, and start over from the beginning with a new character.

Ya i know, but speaking from my own experience, i was about mid way thru the SP game a while back, when the 1.03 patch was released. After instll, i tried to pick up from my last save, but when i got to one of the cut scenes where you hold a machete up to a guy's throat, the machete didn't appear, so i couldn't complete the mish as i had planned.
When i started over from scratch, the same cut scene worked fine again.

That's pretty weak evidence.
It's more likely that this was merely an uncommon bug that you didn't run into on your second way through.
I didn't see anything about fixing the faction door problem in any of the patch notes, or your machete problem.

-> you mean we're all in the same "boot". Same problem here and I also started with a new game after the latest "patch". Well we have ourselves to blame I guess for still playing this glitched up game (although I cursed the game one year ago swearing not to touch it ever again- well I did anyway after some time which in my opinion is solid proof for the potential this game had... Had the just have some test people play during development..)

COUPLE OF HOURS LATER: I JUST GOT THE PULITZER TROPHY (PS3) ALTHOUGH I GOT THE BUG AS WELL WITH THE TAPE AS DISCRIPED ABOVE: SO YOU DO GET THE TROPHY AS LONG AS YOU DO EVERYTHING RIGHT (hence getting all the relevant tapes in act 1 to Ruben at once (whilst in act 1 you can still check if you got them all) AND make sure to do so BEFORE you get into your last act 1 mission, cause after starting that one HE'S GONE in the bar (bomber if you have no older savegame..)... In Act 2 you have to get the other tapes and hand them to him (make sure no mission is active). Good luck!

Stealing boots has been picked up by me on several occasions in the same game.

The problem here is not so much a glitch but if you give Reuben the tapes too early. Do not give him the tapes in Act 1; ignore him, pass them over in Act 2. If you give him tapes too early, then when you find more they are all the same as the mission has concluded.

That doesn't prevent the glitch. The glitch occurs regardless.

I presume so, without looking. Yes, been keeping an eye out for patches not seen one in months and months.
