View Full Version : Vertical sync and freeze on exit problem

Occasionally when I start up Far Cry 2, the game appears like the broken TV sets that populate the game. The picture rolls vertically to the point that it's hard to even track the mouse cursor moves. When it first happened, I loaded another game to see if it did the same thing and found it was just FC2. However, when I restarted FC2 the problem cleared itself. This vertical sync issue happens about 2 out of every 3 times I load the game, and before this morning it would always go away after launching and exiting another game. Today, the issue won't go away.

Also, again about 2 out of every 3 times, when I save a game and try to exit, it will freeze my system. The Windows cursor will appear on screen and respond to mouse movements, but the FC2 menu will be frozen and the system will be otherwise unresponsive. Hard booting is the only thing I've found to rectify this.

Thanks in advance for any help.

My system specs:
Gigabyte GA-EP45 UD3R mobo
Intel Core2Duo E7400 2.8 GHz Wolfdale proc
OCZ 4 GB DDR2 RAM
MSI R4850-512M video card

try reinstalling the video drivers and make sure you use driver sweeper to remove them fully, also may try rolling back a driver version or 2.

Managed to sort this out: Had a conflict between the default settings on my video card for AA and AAF and what I had selected in the game. Have an option in the card set up to allow each application to select these settings, chose that, and everything works fine.

Have a new problem to sort out, tho.... (new thread)
