Dual core processors own because they are more expensive than normal processors and have no legitamate application at this point in time. Much like Corvettes and Fiats.

Not totally true, I am Upping to a Dual core Proc because I use Photoshop for work. Photoshop CS2 Runs in 64Bit mode and will recognize the Dual Core Procs. The speed differance on large files is amazing. When games go 64bit Dual proc capable we should see some really amazing games.

How will Duel cores perform with games that do not have Dual Core support? Will there still be some advantage over single core? GR3 I believe will not support Dual Cores but i hope a dual core will still provide great performance.

The AMD 64X2 3800 got 10 FPS higher than the more expensive XF-57. So there may be some small performance boost in gaming because the proc is more efficiant. But real gains wont be seen til we see true 64 bit games with dual channels.

why by a dual core, when you can get an xbox 360 and have a tri core!

Because it is a console and the gameplay through a controller vice keyboard/mouse cannot be compared on an even scale.

From what I've seen at work, when using 3DS Max, Solidworks, Alias or ProE dual core advantage is about 30-40% gain versus a single processor. Intel claims up to 80% but again that depends on the software side. I'm sure this will all evolve in time. There other bottlenecks to also consider bus type, memory, video card, etc... you can always get the bleeding edge, it would only depend on how much money your willing to put down. But sooner or later all this parallel technology will become almost standard with PCs (I'm a bit disapointed though, it doesn't double speeds but again this is dependent on how they code the software). To date I've not seen a lot of games take advantage of high end workstation PC capabilites. Most current titles do not support dual core processor, but they probably will in the near future.

I think GRAW just might... if your familiar with Ageia Novodex physics engine, it might explain a bit more.
dual core support? (http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/2791043913/m/7481031143)

Using this logic why not get a PS3 and get a Octa(8)core??

One advantage is that the operating system can run all the background tasks it does on 1 core while the game dominates the second core. No really huge speed advantage with that, but does help none the less.

the core stuff is still weired imo....
how can you actually compare them if you cant place them side by side.
ghz this core that.... it doesnt mean nothing in benchmarks....
sure 2 AMD cpus doesnt mean it is faster then 1 AMD ... it just can do more but not faster

One would be unable to schedule the anti virus to scan at a more convenient time? For example, when the user tells it to...

Well i ordered a new system which i should get next week. The specs are:
Dual Core 3.0 GHZ (800 FSB & 2 meg cache)
ASUS P5WD2 motherboard
2 gigz of DDR2 800
SATA 2 250 harddrive (16 meg cache, Western Digital)
ATI X850 Platnum PCI Express (250 Meg)
I guess i will find out soon how dual core performs.
