Hello my fellow forum members.

I've been down this road before, but it's been a very long time since i've installed any mods using the mod installer that comes with GWX2.1.

I can't for the life of me remeber how to install the different formatted mods using the mod installer, for example i just downloaded some .rar U-boat skins, and some unit addons and i cant remeber the proper file folder sequence or where theses files must be placed. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/bigtears.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/compsmash.gif

I will graciously accept all wise cracks and jokes at my expense for some much neede advice! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/11.gif

Thanx VG. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/metal.gif

I do have one question....What if there are no instructions? Am i to assume that you can't insall the mod.

Okay i lied, 2 questions.

What about a 7z file, do u treat it the same way as an .RAR file?

If a mod comes with a folder structure, check that the first folder inside it is called 'data' (not case-sensitive). If it isn't, dig deeper until you find the 'data' folder. Sometimes when you decompress a downloaded mod, the software puts it in another folder, which won't work with JSGME. When you put the mod folder in JSGME's MODS folder, the folder structure must be like this:

MODS > Joe Blog's Widget Mod > data > etc...

NOT like these examples:

MODS > Joe Blog's Widget Mod > Joe Blog's Widget Mod > data > etc...

MODS > Joe Blog's Widget Mod > Widget Mod > data > etc...

If the mod doesn't have a JSGME-ready folder structure (nearly all do), then there should be instructions on where the files need to go. But, to make it JSGME-compatible you need to create the correct folder structure to put the files in (as described in my post here (http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/2881085392/m/3461029123)). The idea is that this folder structure tells JSGME where to put the files in SH3's actual 'data' folder.

If there's no folder structure or instructions, your only hope is to ask whoever made the mod! I don't think you'll ever come across that situation though.

Just so you know, it's OK (and common) for a mod to have other files (such as instructions or screenshots) or folders next to its data folder, like this:

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c188/VikingG/MWSnap0172008-11-2317_10_42.jpg

In fact, in the above example, mods that have a Documentation folder like that add another useful feature to JSGME. If you right click on the mod in JSGME's window, you'll get a link to open any text files stored in the Documentation folder http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

And here's a shortcut you might not know about.... Once you are sure the mod you want to install has the correct folder structure as described above, you can add the mod to JSGME by dragging the folder directly onto the 'Available Mods' list in JSGME's window - this will automatically put the mod in the MODS folder http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif (this feature doesn't work in Vista though)

Yes, you can use a 7z file the same as you would a mod that comes in .rar or .zip format. I use 7-Zip to decompress all types of mod files - it's free and very simple to use:
