Software conflicts cause more trouble than anything. You can update drivers all day long but if something bad on your rig is running it can keep the game from running. So here are a couple of things that can help.

Make sure your start up folder is empty. The easiest way to do that is right click on the Start button, click on explore, click on start menu, then programs then start up and then either delete or drag out everything. If you drag em out you can put em back later.

Then go to start-run and type msconfig. A little utility program will open that tells you all kinds of things about your rig. Be careful with this program cause you can do some real damage here. The startup tab is the one that will help you. You can uncheck any program you do not want to start when windows boots. For the change to take effect you have to restart but hey it's Windows. Now you can always check it back if you want. There is also a tab called services. This tells you what is currently running and if it is an essential program for windows to work. You can stop anything by unchecking it and then hitting apply. Stay away from the disable all or enable all button. Consider those self-destruct buttons. Remember anything you do has a risk of breaking something. This is windows remember?

These programs will help you troubleshoot the game not installing, loading or running. Once again you make changes at your own risk but you are a PC GAMMER, not a boxer!

One more thing. Spyware can hose your computer up so it's up to you to get rid of it

Here is the link for a great FREE program that works better than most you pay for (that's different isn't it?)
http://www.download.com/3000-2144-10045910.html?part=69274&subj=dlpage&tag=button

Download the ADAWARE SE program install and run it a least once a week and after any long session on the web particularly if you have been using the search engines (you like those nasty little screen savers don't cha?)
