I just got SH3. It installs fine and my system has the recommended requirements but after the intro video the game goes to the load screen and when it reaches 100% it just returns to my desktop! Can anyone please help.
I have the lastest patch and drivers.
Win 2000
1GB RAM
GeForce 6600
directx 9.0c
realtek ac97

Still haven't found the solution to this very annoying problem. I have removed the intro movies and still the same. Gonna try the new patch. One thing I have noticed is that the windows cursor is still in view when the game is loading. Is this the norm or is it a clue to my load problem? I'm also gonna mess around with screen resolution sizes.

Does anyone have any ideas. I have this game for nearly a month and I can't get the thing to load. I have installed 1.2 patch and still no joy. Tried fiddling around with the screen res and nothing. PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!

Not a win200o guy, so you really need help from them. First of all, do you have your desk top res set to 1024X768? I understand that can help solve some problems. However, what you did discribe does sounds driver problem. Did you try a driver cleaner to ensure you had a clean start before installing the latest drivers? That is always a good place to start. Sound drivers play a big part too. Are you sure your have the latest sound drivers for that mobo?

If you want more help, you may want to post your dx diag dump. that will provide a snap shot of you system and drivers. Then, maybe someone with win 2000 experience who can cypher thru all the dx info can help you further. GL

Thanks for the help. I'll give the driver cleaner a go but I'm sure i have the lastest drivers. In the back of my head i think it's a sound card problem Realtek ac97, i've had trouble with it on other games but never to this dregee. I'll post my dx up soon. thanks for the advice

Hi,
I have exactly the same problem - After the video intro, the red bar at the bottom of the display gets to 100% and then screen just flips back to my desktop.
Any ideas anyone? Or should I send the **** game back, or flog it on ebay?

System info -

Asus A7N8X Deluxe mobo, with rev 2 BIOS.
AMD 2800+ CPU.
Sapphire Radeon 9200SE 'Atlantis' AGPx8 128meg video card. Just downloaded and installed the latest drivers this evening.
1 Gig PC3200 400mhz DDR main memory.
No sound card fitted, and on-board sound disabled.
Win 2K Pro with latest updates/patches, inc SP4.
SS3 DVD Patch 1.2 downloaded from this site and installed.

Time to chuck it on ebay methinks. Had it 2 weeks now and still no joy. Tried numerous tips/work-arounds and still no good.
Sorry Ubisoft, but it has to go. Just wished I'd never bought this rubbish in the first place. It is inherently NOT suitable for which it is inteded and marketed. You should be ashamewd of yourselves in releasing such a shoddy product. I shall not be buying any more Ubisoft products, and will be advising a friend (who is looking to buy your Lock-Down flight sim) to do likewise until you can come up with a usable and reliable product which does exactly as it says on the tin.

I can't believe how much trouble this ****ing game is causing.

As for the red bar and then crash - I had the same on my XP pro partition, but I think that is related to diskspace (I have about 100mb left on the drive now). How much free space do you have and how much virtual mem?

For Win2k, I have disk checking problems that just reboot my pc without error messages.

But hey! I just love spending hours trying to get a game working when I get home from work. This is the first star force product I've tried. I think it'll be the last.

It's my suspician that the whole thing is just poorly written. It should never have been released to market before it was fully sorted.
After all, you wouldn't buy a half-finished car from the showroom....would you?

eqquis, a couple of things...

It looks like you're slightly overclocked - try backing it down to stock.

Turn down sound acceleration to minimum in dxdiag.

Set desktop resolution to 1024x768. You have a very low monitor refresh rate at your current res, try setting it higher (if only to save your eyes).

I'm sure that sharper eyes will spot more.

Thanks for the tip. I have increased my refresh rate and lower my screen res, no effect on the game tho. I'm sticking with this one. I loved the first two games and really want to experience this one. Any more help please?

Never had a problem with SH3 , playing it from the first day it was released. Then one day last week it would "red bar" load then crash to desktop. Messed with everything, reinstalled...still CTD. Then I remembered that I had turn off page filing while doing other things on the computer. So I turned page filing back on... NO PROBLEM. Dont know if this will help... what's this "page filing" thing? where do I find it?...

I've got a similar problem, so I want to check if that thing is turned on or off.

I own a PC with a GF4 MX, game started and worked fine (but it looked really bad, as the sea won't appear at all http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif)... today I bought an ATI radeon 9250 256mb video card...and the game won't start! :S

any ideas...
