Random mission generation also confirmed
Recently, NowGamer interviewed Crytek managing director Avni Yerli about Ubisoft's treatment of the Far Cry license.
He replied, "We are a little bit sad that the DNA of Far Cry hasn’t been maintained throughout the sequels."
We then asked Ubisoft's Jamie Keen to comment on Crytek's opinion at a developer showcase event today.
Keen explained, "I think Far Cry has weaved it's way through things a little bit, definitely. I've got nothing but respect for what the Crytek guys are doing. I've worked with a bunch of them before and they're doing sone awesome stuff. Crysis 2 is spectacular."
"We really want to regain some of that DNA from Far Cry 1", Keen continued, "You've seen here, it's much more of that tropical paradise, it's not such a driven experience, there's more to the backdrop."
"It's getting that feeling back in there and mixing it with the DNA from Far Cry 2, which was a different experience but still quite compelling one."
"Then we're kind of doing our own thing. So we're kind of cherry-picking the best bits from different parts of the Far Cry universe, to get something that, for Far Cry fans will hopefully hit all the high points."
Keen also confirmed the existence of Red Dead-style, procedurally-generated side missions in Far Cry 3.

Do you ever read anything properly before leaping to conclusions?
The part you quoted is from someone at Crytek (the original developers of Far Cry) complaining about where Ubisoft went with Far Cry 2. The Ubisoft response is below (the bit you didn't quote).
The Ubisoft response implies that FC3 will take the best bits from FC1 and FC2, and add some new things, which is what I'd expect really.

I think this will be a good addition. It worked well in RDR.
There's a few things in RDR that could be implemented in FC3. It's only fair because RDR clearly borrowed ideas from FC2 imo.

I have not played that much of RDR online but I maxed out the single player and thought those side missions were excellent.
Far Cry 2 had side missions (buddy missions) but you could not go and do them whenever you wanted, You had to speak to a buddy who was alive and could only have one on the go at a time.
If we can access a list and do side missions in any order and get upgrades out of it in single player then I can't see how anyone could complain - If anything it is adding to the length of the game.
Going back to what Crytek said, I agree with some things, I much preferred the old weapon system on Consoles, I have never really been a fan of weapon load-outs and weapon classes but it is almost impossible to get away from this nowadays thanks to COD.
I guess I have to move with the times.

I agree. On FC2, buddy missions gave you a number of extra optional missions, but they were limited to "go somewhere, kill everyone, and maybe bring something back with you!" (although detractors of FC2 would say ALL the missions in FC2 were like that, with some justification).
In RDR, the side missions were story-based and although they were limited up to a point, they didn't feel as repetitive as the FC2 ones.
This is an example of where Ubi can take things in FC2 and make them better. For those of us who loved FC2, change isn't necessarily a bad thing.

Just so you guys know..
I was at the event, and also spoke to Jamie Keen...
The whole team are acutly aware of what this game means to the fans..
There are many different issues that have been highlighted by you guys, the community..
He said to make sure that I tell you all, that the E3 demo, is just that a demo, so some things may change since the game is not yet set in stone.
So you should not take everything you see in the demo, such as the way the HUD looks or the health system (for example) as the final version - these things can go through many changes, before the team find something that works well, and is liked by the majority..

I liked the random little stuff in RDR. Loligagging to a mission, slow riding down the trail to take in the scenery and to poach some fur or get animal meat, and suddendly a rattle snake strikes your leg. I'm not a hunter and hate the thought of killing real animals - but virtual ones were okay and it gave Marsten some coin to take care of business.

I am good with anything that expands both the fun and the playability of the game out. If they are using RDR as a jumping off point, then that could work for me, since I enjoy the hell out of that game.

In the "FC3 info/fact thread" I suggested Ubi to learn some things from RDR and now Keen confirmed FC3 would have RDR style side missions, I'm very excited to hear this. RDR was awesome, well crafted sandbox game and 2010 GOTY IMO. (But its replay value was very low, once you beat it you dont want to playthrough it again)
RDR also has the random events/encounter which were very cool. You can choose to intervene to help the victims/police or just ignore them and mind your own business.
