I just downloaded this demo & I have tried for at least a couple hours to play this demo. Here is what I have done so far.

So far I have tried everything. Put CPU to default speed. lowered Mem timings from aggressive to optimal, Put ATI driver from force vsync to always off, turned off EAX in game, Put all in game settings to low. Same lockup every single time no matter what. It might get to a full 1/16th load then I hear a sound pop & that's it. I gotta hit the reset button. I even already uninstalled the demo & then reinstalled it. This is a friggen joke. Looked at the readme & nothing about any known issues at all. I have tried turning all the ATI driver settings to as low as possible. Here is my setup.


Athlon 2800+ 333 / Areo7+ HSF
Soltek SL-75FRN2 NF2 mobo
1 gig Kingston pc 2700 512 each in dual channel mode
PowerColor 9700 np
Audigy2 & EAX 4 Drivers
ATI catalyst drivers 4.1

yah i think there is a problem with the deom im a beta tester and played the copy I recived and just played the official demo and there is a real lag problem they should run the same!!

Weird it's running smoothly for me, no lag, just smooth as a babies behind.

Here's my specs and game settings, maybe they'll help in figuring out where the problem might lie for anyone having trouble.

1024*768 all settings on high save for water on very high, no FSAA, and 8x anisotropic filtering enabled.

XP2100 @2GHz, 640MB Ram at 1:1 with the FSB, Radeon 9800 Pro 128MB 400MHz core 712 MHz Ram, using on board dolby digital audio on a ASUS A7N8X deluxe, Win XP Pro with SP1 installed and using the Omega tweaked catalyst's based upon catalyst 3.9

some rocks/objects have deformation effects when the player walks towards or around them. It's hard to see in static screen shot. I don't know if it's an technical difficulity which's hard to solved,or sth else? Did't crytek notice this phenomenon?

yepp same crap here, i got it from BT and i cant install it, setups checks for windows version then nothing,

Even tryied boot up in safe mode just to ensure nothing was blocking but still i dont think this releaes is official and still no word from ubi.

My inclination is that its the Ati Catalist 4.1 drivers that are at fault.

The far cry multiplayer beta worked fine for me when i was using version 3, i upgraded to 4.1, and now the demo wont load. (it gives me a hardware error just after loading).

the demo runs incredible nice on my XP1700

try to edit the systemcfg.lua and change r_Driver = "Direct3D9" to r_Driver = "OpenGL"

that runs more stable on some sytems

Wel the game runs pretty nice BUT, it randomly makes my computer reset itself!!? Arrgg =( I will be right near the end and then...computer resets.

yes, it was the catalist drivers making it not work.

Downgrade to 3.x and it works fine.

The demo is so brilliant! i was blown away.

Played it on hard first of. Bit easy, but oh so fun! I have never played such a good game!

*wants more*

The end of the demo is when you blow up the satalite dish right? My pc crashed just after i had destroyed it so i couldnt tell if there where more levels to come...

Catalyst 4.1 is working for me but I am experiencing some dark grey geometric artifacts on all rocks. Is anyone else having this problem?

Check that you have not got 16 bit z buffer forced.

For example powerstrip program can enable/disable forcing 16 bit z buffer, you shoul never force it, always use 32 bit z buffer.

Running game in 16 bit color mode also forces 16 bit z buffer

ive had 1. crackling sound thats affecting the graphics too.

and 2. the guns get bugged and dont point in the right direction.

Damaged could be , HD space should be more then enough ( more then 10 G )

Will download it again and give it another try.

well I dont know about you guys..I havent gotten my 2200+ and extra 256 ram. but on full graphics and eax the game runs so fast. And this is on a celeron..yeah I am changing to a 2200+ I expected this game to run like crap on celeron..but nope. probably will run EVEN better on Athlon 2200.

bugs:

water changes color. pink. green..sometimes blue.
AI Sucks.
Trees need to be re done.

had a slight grfx glitch when i got 2 the radar station, there was a grey band coming verticaly from it that would expand when i looked left & right but thats it.oh btw ive only got the settings on medium due 2 my ageing grfx card,other than that it works sweet http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif cool game....

Thanks to goetterfunke12 for His "try to edit the systemcfg.lua and change r_Driver = "Direct3D9" to r_Driver = "OpenGL" seems to have fixed my loading crashing issue.

I have the new ATI 4.1 drivers and everything is working fine for me. My System Specs are as follows:

Abit IC7-MAX3 Motherboard
Pentium 4 3.2ghz 800FSB
1 GIG of Corsair XMS DDR400
Asus ATI 9800XT 256MB Video Card
Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS
2 Western Digital 120GB SATA Drives 8mb cache. Configured for Raid 0

I've got the same error as you. I can't run it in Direct3D. I only can run it in OpenGL. I have this crash/error in the sp demo AND the multiplayer beta.

My system:

AMD Athlon XP2700+
R9800np @ Cat4.1 (also tested on Cat3.10)
Epox 8K5A3+
512 MB DDR-SDRAM

I downloaded the singleplayer demo ..when i run setup i get an error message:sayin i got an invalid c drive.The problem is the name of my HD is E.It is the only one on my pc so i can't change its name...
Can someone plz help me???? a bugged download doesn't seem 2 be the reason overhere

Bugs and needed tweaks:


- enemy models should point gun vertically when they aim up and down

- Crackling sound on my sb audigy

- mp5SD makes no noise

- some walls stick out furthere than their texture, making an invisible wall you can't see

- AI needs tweaking, pathfinding issues, and sometimes broken awareness

- graphic optimization

- some ugly textures (rusty metal on the antique canons)

Works great for me, running it at 1024x768, very high details. The only problem is see is that there appears to be a little mouse lag. It just doesn't feel as smooth as it should.

I cannot install the demo
i get an error 1603 fatal error for the msi.

My system
Athlon 1800
abit kt board
512mb ddr 2100
gf 4 4200 128mb

this is my spare machine, just wanted to test and see the demo in action, i will try it on my machine at home as well.

its specs are
P4 3ghz 800mhz fsb
1gb pc3200
radeon 9800

Just wondering if anyone else had this issue.

2 problems related to the game and the Ati Radeon 8500 128MB version. First off the game will only run at the lowest settings. Every other setting cause everything to be weird colors and you can't even move. Second, towards the end of the demo there is a lot of weird rendering errors. hopefully this stuff will be fixed in the final version.

GAMEPLAY BUGS:

-When you kill a gunner in a chopper, after his body falls out his WEAPON hovers in mid-air like he dropped it.

-I could not retrieve my previous weapon when I "dropped it" as the dropping throws your weapon a few feet in front of you and it laned INSIDE a wall (clipping issue).

I also lost a weapon when I crouched, dropped it and then picked up another one. The original weapon completely disappeared. This was right ontop of a dead NPC as well if that helps...

-If you are right next to a bush and a fern leaf is present, your shots STOP at the fern leaf and don't go any further (collision detection issue). This makes sniping from cover almost useless.

-Some rocks and other objects have bounding boxes TOO FAR from the actual object and players are forced to crawl furhter (if prone) to get around them which makes leaning and other tactical advantages useless.

-Ballistic penetration and model hit detection needs to be more realistic (aka powerful) and consistent.

I was crouched in the doorway of one of the huts and a Merc was behind a wooden veneer to the side clearly in my line of fire. I sprayed the veneer with a full clip and while pieces of wood flew everywhere... He didn't go down or wasn't even wounded -- And he didn't even try and run away.

-Enemy AI is inconsistent

A) Sometimes, they are spot on and react like you expect real soldiers to react. Other times, they will literally walk right up to you and do NOTHING.

B) They have some path finding issues when ever they take cover as they don't seem to get around rocks very well either.

C) Some have the Uber-Vision and aim which kills the realism and fun factor very quickly and turns the game into just another bland, FPShooter where you feel like you are NOT playing a game against real soldiers/Mercs.

D) If you snipe one soldier standing in a group of many, none of them hit the deck or even scatter. In fact, a few actually look right at you (your scope) and start spitting lead which again, kills the realism/fun factor.

-Sound Bugs

A) The MP5SD needs a Hollywood style "chirp". There were also NO reload sounds in this demo.

B) Some sounds get cut off in mid-play like Mercs crying for help/support in favor of otehr environmental sounds like gunfire or ambient jungle sounds.

-General bugs:

A) If you crouch behind a crate or other static object for cover, the game appears to reset/center your view as if you hit the old "Centerview" button from old style Quake games.

B) Grenade arc throwing distances not consistent.

It doesn't matter how far you lean back or hold the grenade throw button; they all seem to go the same distance if you are aiming for a far away target (versus just throwing one at a target few yards away)

That's all I can think of. Great game. It runs butter smooth on my rig at 1024x768 at 32 with all settings on HIGH:

Forceware Drivers 50.30 (latest version)
Direct X 9.0b (even though my Ge4 is not DX 9 compliant)

I have virtually the same specs as you, no problems so far at all, have 4.1 Cat drivers installed.

I already fixed my issue & posted it in this thread. I used OpenGL as the renderer.

Great Demo! Awesome! I remember like 2 and a half years ago when I had my G-force 2 i was running the original Crytek Engine Demo (The Dinosaurs)....G-force 2. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Notes to Devs:

1. Wheres the Lens Flair From the Sun??
With these Graphics its needed.

2. The Lush Forest is great! But its odd when walking Thru the plants as if Im a ghost.
Is it possible to Make it so, when walking thru plants, they bend or sway back as if you are Brushing thru/by them, instead of magically moving thru them...?

3. Grenades need to be Selectable as a Weapon would.


4. Skins on some Guns, like the Crabine a little weak. Wheres the sound on the silenced mp5? It should make some clicking.

5. The water is awesome, It would be great if the water/waves comming up to the "beach" would look more livel/ a little better.

6. On many occasions I felt like sneaking up from behind a bush or rock to grab and choke/break a bad guys neck. Is that do-able?

7. Lastly, iit would make the game if the bullets had travel, if they splintered wood and also went thru it, Such as bullets going thru a wooden shack pass thu one side, and out the other.

8. I noticed when the bullets hit the water it dosent look to good, i was expecting them to make "dips" in the water and more splash.

9. The flashlight effect isn't so good, I think with the light source code in this game, you could really make use of a brighter flashlight and make use of Shadows(!)

10. With all the time put into the superb Graphics a dynamic sky would be benificial ex-moving clouds..MOVING SKY!

11. Any Rain?? How about Fast winds?

12. AI is Odd at times, guys get stuck and they always see you from behind rocks and stuff(!)??

I have a Radeon 8500 retail and it runs about a single frame every 10 seconds, and it looks veeeeeery bad with ugly colors... http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif
