This MB has a power input socket they call "Auxiliary Power for Graphics" (PWR3) in addition to the 24-pin and 9-pin ATX sockets. The MB doc. says

"The PWR3 connector is a auxiliary power connection for graphics cards. Exclusive power for graphics card provides better graphics performance".

That's all it says. But, the 8800 GTX also has its own power connector. Do both of these need to be connnected? I'm sure the one on the graphics card is needed, but don't know about the one on the MB?

Several mobo makers have these extra power inputs, most of the time it's just for added stability when running SLI. If you have two cards go ahead and connect it if you can, if not, don't sweat over it, lol.

Thanks. Actually my question should have been: Is there a possibility of negative results if I connect both given that the GPU has its own power.

Absolutly no problem, will only add stability.
