CPU type:P4 2.4
Amount of RAM: 1GB OCZ
Type of video card:9800Pro Catalyst 5.6
Operating system: Windows XP Pro
Far Cry patch version: 1.31

I have played farcry online for ages and had no real problems other than the odd CD in use error etc. But since installing anti-virus software namely McAfee InternetSecuritySuite I cannot connect to any servers. It lets me log into ubi.com but throws up "CD Key Invalid" when i try to join any game with any IP address. Ive contacted McAfee and basically they are stuck, usual **** about opening ports etc but all ports are open and it still doesnt work if all firewalls etc are off or disabled. I know its a conflict with mcafee because if i restore xp to before the installation everything is fine again.

Surely FarCry should work with a common piece of anti-virus software like mcafee!!

Is anyone else who is having problems with cd key verification timeout/invalid using this or a similar anti-virus package? or does anyone who has the same package have any issues?

Cheers

One of the forum moderators (Cuztds_lst_stnd) had the exact same problem as you have with the McAfee Suite. If you search for posts by him (with keyword Mcaffee) in the last month or two, you should find what he posted.

EDIT: Just found a few posts with above criteria. It seems he had to uninstall Mcaffee to get Far Cry to work online.

Nice memory and detective work Coops.
Yup game would not work even with Mcaffe PFW disabled, only uninstalling it allowed game to work.
Left rest of internet suite installed so it is def the FW...

Dont understand it, couldnt fix it!
Only thing I wondered is if FC is calling a sub prog to access the internet the internet that Mcaffee doesnt give child/parent permissions to...
Just a theory!

My last computer had windows XP with SP1. During the time I had this I had used both the McAfee security center and Norton Security center. Far Cry multiplayer worked fine with both of these.
I have recently builkt myself a new system which has Windows XP again but with SP2. I havent seen Mp_surf in such a long time because apparently my cd key is invalid. I have rung the ubisoft helpline who were absolutely pathetic and offered no real solution whatsoever. Then i've been reading other topics on this forum about how firewalls can prevent the multiplayer from functioning properly. I am a seasoned computer user and know what I am doing (but obviously not in this case). I've disabled all my firewalls and opened all ports but to no avail. I found this a task in itself but how do Ubisoft expect the more newer people to computers or people who just turn the thing on, put in a disk and play to know how to do this. Its absolutely ridiculous. Maybe it's SP2 with it's new security features that is doing this after my previous experiences. Anyone else thinking what i'm thinking?

I've seen and play a game that is even worse then fc concerning the connection stuff.User's will learn what to do if they really want to.Sometime's digging deep is required, but without giving up it'll come.

I Use Windows SP2 firewall and a hardware router firewall with no problems. I have never opened any ports.
I do remember someone saying that the order of installing SP2 (with its firewall and DirectX 9.0c) and the game and video drivers makes a diefference.

@Coops Did you say you have a router and without any configuring at all ,you can play fc online? If so,make and model would be nice to know.
