The only possible connection is that the mysterious guys at the end of GRAW 2 may be part of the PMC in this game, also I've seen pics where the Red Diamond on the Cross Com is visible to the pilots.

It would be sweet if you had troops on the ground ( your buddies) and you could be in the air giving them Air support Instead of AI on the ground.
