View Full Version : OXM-Splinter Cell Conviction

Im just going to point out some key notes from the first look from OXM of the game.
OXM - "Presenting Tom Clancy's Assassin's Creed"
1. The biggest new feature is the "handle system" - a near infinite, Dead Rising-ish level of interaction.
2. The game picks up on the bad ending of SCDA, where Sam stops the terrorists, flees the scene, and is now considered a fugitive.
3. When Sam knocks a guard out, he drops a walkie-talkie, which you will be able to use later.
4. It seems they already changed how the propane tank blew up from what we saw in the trailer. OXM says that the propane tank spin and squirt around the area when Sam shot it before blowing up.
5. Many pedestrians scattered and ran, while another stood frozen until Sam ran by him, at which point he backed away with his arms above his head, frightened for his life.
6. "In the end, consider this: Chaos Theory pretty well perfected the whole creeping-in-the-shadows stealth experience, so it's arguably a better move - creatively and financially - for the series to go in a completely new direction.
7. NPC reactions all in one scene: scared, curious, calling for back-up, etc.
Oh, and the controls of the buttons:
a) X - the stealth button(hide under tables, put on your hood)
b) A - the contextual "use" button(open doors)
c) B - the aggro button(hand-to-hand fighting, grabbing, etc)

I don't like the sound of the three-button controls. Too easy. Feh.

I think they made it that way so that it would be quick and easy for you to react since you need to think much quicker now. The other games had so much controls to remember(every single button was used...and sometimes used twice or more) so I guess it wouldnt work in this new setting.

Those arent going to be the only buttons, just the primary ones. Other actions will be assigned to the other buttons to make the control scheme deeper than it seems.

I guess, now instead of a single interact button with a menu, you have 3 buttons to accomplish that. Just my guess.

Yeah^^^, they did say they wanted stuff to happen quicker and on the fly.

Everytime the B button is pressed, Sam will do a random move depending upon how he is facing the opponent. This is not a fighting game so that we have various move combos...sheesh.

Sam doesnt even do combos, he does quick takedown moves to get rid of them.

The less buttons, the less equipment, the less thinking, the easier it is to play and it is also easier for the devs to develop. So does that mean less bugs, not likely.
creatively and financially - for the series to go in a completely new direction.

But there are finishing moves in development! Imagine Mike Ironside shouting FATALITY!1 when you pimpslap a guard across his face and magically fly him into a hotdog stand.
Whoa...

Im not and I think no one else should worry about glitches or bugs in this game. Ubi Montreal is still making it and by the games I have bought and played from them they all were 99.9% flawless.
@ChineseBookey: They were referring to the quick takedowns...like when Sam lured the guard to a quiet place he did a quick move to dispose of him. I dont think there will be any punch, punch, kick, punch, fill up rage meter, and press A and B to activate finishing move. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-indifferent.gif

Regardless of what you might think about Ubisoft Montreal CT, still had a number of bugs for the PC version. I don't remember how many times i had to send a save file to people that couldn't cross the zipline on the NY mission without falling to their death because of a bug. Also the PC version of Coop was as much of a joke as Versus was for DA.

I've played the PC version of Chaos Theory, and played through the story at least 20 times on PC version alone. I've never encountered the bug you're talking about the zipline...
There could be some issues getting to start a CO-OP game with someone, when you did start playing, it worked.

It was a bug that showed up after one of the patches. Not everyone experienced this bug for some reason but a good portion of the players did.

There was also another bug that allot of people experienced where the game would crash just after the sequence with general otomo unless you had the thermal vision on.

its really funny how they call it Tom Clancy's Assassin's Creed. Only because I posted my thoughts on the comparison a couple days ago but i guess im not the only one who can read UBI like a book now with every new cross-version sequals they make now.
