View Full Version : Captured Fw 190A-8 (USAAF)
06-12-2005, 01:03 PM
This skin file was created as a result of a request by EnsignKarl1. It represents an Fw 190A-8, lately of Jagdgeschwader 4, forced down during Operation Bodenplatte on New Year's Day 1945 and captured by US forces. Flown to America for testing, at an unknown point in its captivity it was 'refurbished' in this rather striking all over red scheme. Even the undercarriage struts were re-painted. I have speculated as to the most probable colour of the ETC rack and undercart fairings had they been left on http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif, as well as using a bit of artisic license when deciding which of the originally RLM 02 areas of the plane would have been repainted.
Comments and critiques, as always, very welcome, and I hope you enjoy using this skin. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
PS. Dammit, forgot to add that this skin is available from http://www.skinnersheaven.com thanks to Seanorris. Cheers mate. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif
PPS. Also forgot to add that I was unable to find a way of adding the yellow tips to the prop blades, as seen in the photo, but I don't think that detracts too much from the scheme.

Propeller tips Yellow...and Emblem should be more white around the helmet. ( it looks a bit to blue now)..Furthermore it is fabulous-looking http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

I tried to do the tips, but mapping issues intervened. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif Also, I used the standard JG 4 emblem, with the blue upper-area, and put the 'whiteness' of the area in the photo down to poor film-quality. You can read more in the similarly-titled thread on the General Discussion Forum, where I'm also planning to post updates of a re-worked version of the skin, with as many improvements as possible. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Hello again...coding is OO I on your skin. But it should be OO L......hard to spot on that picture. The side panel is a little light compared to the rest of the airplane..Sorry to be such a crittic, will you add corrected code and panel?...i hope so..Keep up the spirit and keep the skins coming http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

Yes, I am planning to paint an updated version. Thanks for the info mate -I was forced to guess on the 'I', because I couldn't find any more info - I'll change it to 'L' in the next version. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif When you say 'the side panel is lighter', what do you mean exactly? Some areas of the side of the aircraft look a little lighter in the photo, but isn't that just due to lighting?

Only this one panel behind the right "O" and left of star and bar....it lookes lighter-red than the rest of the fuselage. On the picture its al the same red. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

Ah right, I know what you mean. That's just a feature of my template, which has several (mostly) random panels toned down to give a 'faded' effect. I use it to break up the general monotony of colour schemes. We'll discuss whether or not I should use it in the General Discussion thread, as that seems to be getting more responses from a wider opinon base. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

You could do two versions, one with weathering and one slightly weathered http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Nice idea mate, I might well do that. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
Would all future comments be posted in the General Discussion thread please? That way it makes sure I don't miss anything important. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
