Hello everyone. This is the first thread that I open. And i want to share this with you, my fellow captains. I've been playing this game for around 3 or 4 months now. I enjoy every minute of it, but until now, I was only able to find lone merchants and convoys. But yesterday... Ohh yesterday.
I set out from Brest on june 1944 (dont remember the exact date). I have a Type IXC and i was going to patrol around AM27. A few hours (game time) into the patrol, i was going though the south-east corner of BF15, when my radioman warned me of a radar contact. I usually find lone merchants on that area, so I diverted from my original route and went to check the contact. Suddenly, my watch officer screams "VISUAL CONTACT - 025 DEGREES!!". I check on that with my UZO and I was able to find a lone ship, different from the ones that I've been atacking so far. As i got closer, I noticed that I found a lone PASSENGER LINER!!! 24000 tons of steel, sitting in front of my U-Boat. Like never before, my mouse and my fingers where lightning-quick to assign crew to my deck gun. I got up to 1000 mtrs and started firing AP rounds at the water line. After 16 shots, the liner was already listing to the left, so to save ammo, i turned on the time comp. The liner listed more and more, but it would not sink. After those 16 shots and 1:30 hours of time compression, the bastard was still afloat. So i decided to go around, to the other side. When I reached my position I started firing AP rounds again. After the first 3 shots, my watch officer spotted inbound planes: 4 Sunderlands. I thought "damn, this cant be happening now, not right now with this BIG LINER here...". So, instead of diving and leaving to safety, I stood there to fight for my war trophy. I quickly placed my 4 flakgunners on their stations and stoped firing to the liner. I ordered FIRE AT WILL to the flakgunners, while I took comand of my twin 3.7cm flak. We where able to shoot down the first Sunderland off a distance. The second was also destroyed but on its way down, it made a kamikaze run to my aft quarters. Luckily, he failed miserable and crashed short, some 10 mtrs behind my boat. The other 2 were able to make their runs. One bomb hit my aft quarters and the other hit near the conning tower, giving that "screen blurred" effect. Now i was having a total adrenaline rush!!!. When they came back for their second run, both Sunderlands where filled with lead!!. After assembling some damage control parties and repairing the sub, I went to get my trophy. I made 10 more shots to the liner, and put on the time comp. The list that he had to the left started to be corrected because of the holes that I made on her right side... After a while she started to sink, I mean she was going down like a U-boat that is doing dive procedures. When the water reached the deck, the aft started to came out of the water like in titanic. Wow, what an amazing view. I carried on with my patrol, sinking 14 other ships. I still have 9 fishes and 20 HE rounds, so the death toll can go up a little bit more. But the rest of the patrol was nothing compared to my encounter with that liner!!!
Now, let me apologize for the length of this post, but I wanted to put the biggest amount of detail on this. And I also know that this may be boring to some of you (the more experienced ones), but it was a great thrill to me!!! Thnx for your time reading this!!!

P.S.: By the way, does anybody know if there is a mod that will ONLY increase the amount of warships - task forces on the game?? Im happy with the game as it is, I have only added a few mods (Merchan variety pack, Full vulnerability mod), but i want to came across a lot more of warships, perhaps BB or CV groups.

I've played this game for a litle over a year, and finally found my first passengerliner on wednesday! I'm playing with full difficulty on, so hitting a ship at more than 1200 meters is very difficult, in my opinion.
I had gotten a message of a large enemy convoy on the western approaches to Liverpool, and positioned my sturdy VII-C in it's expected path. It turned out that I was on the northern edge of the convoy as it sailed towards me at a given speed of 6 kts. As I was popping my scope up once in a while to assess the targes I noticed a passengerliner on the other side of the convoy. I turned my boat due south, and started to move at 2 knots. I had one escort to the south of me and one to the north. Every 30 seconds or so, I raised the scope to check out the liner. When I estimated the passengerliner to be about 1500m away I left the scope up and started to calculate how to shoot. Just before I was ready I heard "We have been detcted" (who on the ship knows that?) I quickly finished my calculations and fired 4 torpedoes in a row, then turned my scope to check out the southern escort. It was turning hard towards me. I then took one last look at the passengerliner, and it was turning too. I had fired the torpedoes at approximately 1200-1300 meters. All missed. I dived to 150m and started to move along with the convoy, hoping to slip away to the south east, and maybe do another attack closer to the coast. When I reached 150m, I saved the game and went to bed. No depthcharges thus far. But I figure there will be several hours before the escort let me go.
I really want that passengerliner!

Thnx for the post Cremer. After that I carried on with my patrol, engaging a convoy. I was able to fire 4 torps, sinking a C2 and a C3, but I came under heavy depth charge atack and had to return to port. If i recall correctly, I ended up with 101k- 103k on the patrol. The hull had only 30% left, and luckily, none of crewmens died, only one 2 were injured and made it back to port. After that, I started a new patrol, setting out to patroll sector BB to see if i can catch any convoy out of Sidney - Halifax

Reading a post like this (I am pretty new...less than a week of play time) really gets me excited. I have been lucky to find a single merchant ship when on patrol. If I find anything at all.
I imagine the liner called in and they sent in the air support. =) I cant wait to see something like that myself.

Hey!!! How is everybody doing. Just a little coment. Yesterday I was out on patrol in DO98. When I finished there, I headed N-NE to BB, to try to catch convoys going out of Halifax. The patrol was not so good until there: 3 Sunderlands, 1 Catalyna PBY and a T3 with the deck gun. After passing near Norfolfk, I started to have radar contacts and got a convoy to my east. I was running out of fuel, so this promised to save my patrol. While I got closer to it, I noticed that there were 4 escorts (2 Clemsons, and 2 Hunt III). I could not believe it when I started to identify the rest of the convoy: they were all T2's and T3's!!! I managed to hit the 2 Clemsons (one with a T3 and the other with a Falke), before coming under depth charge attack. I saved the patrol and went to bed... We will see how everything ends tonight!!! Has anybody came across a convoy like this one??

Just be patient, it can happen at any time. In 3 full careers and a special "Liner hunting Quest", in which I scoured the oceans for a liner, using unlimited fuel, I never found one, nor did I find a single BB or fleet carrier. I thought the game had something against me personally. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blink.gif

Then in my 4th career, it all happened, something special on almost every patrol, 3 liners, 7 BB's (3 in one attack), fleet carriers, bogues, cruisers the lot, for a career total of around 2m tons. I even received Donitz's famous 'cease hostilities' message for the 1st time, historically word perfect, that was also a stunning moment. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif

So, hang in there, it will happen sooner or later. I think SH3 senses when you're getting a bit tired of it and throws you some bones. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif
