How do you rotate stationary objects to line them up on an airfield for example?

Use numpad 7 and 9 for coarse rotation.
Use numpad 1 and 3 for fine rotation.

When in 3D perspective view, middle click and drag to rotate selected object.

First magnify map til you see terrain.
Click on object.
Hit enter
use middle mouse button held down and rotate
hit enter to finish

I should mention that in that mode moving mouse around changes view angle, left mouse button zooms and right mouse button moves around the map.
