YES, that's true. don't ask me why it happens, because i have absolutely no idea.

what i do know is that i tried AC on a Japanese 40gb Ceramic White PS3 running firmware 1.97, and it got stuck at the black screen that follows the "PLAYSTATION 3" screen that shows up after you select the game. it flickered once though (i was using Composite output to a multisystem SDTV), and then froze at a black screen. exactly the same thing happened to an Asian ceramic white 40gb ps3. then we tried it on an 80gb Asian PS3, which was updated to 1.94 via AC, and it worked with absolutely no problems. (btw, we also tried a few other discs on the Japanese 40gb: Spiderman 3, Uncharted (Asia), and Enchant Arm (JPN).)

help? solutions? this is pretty serious, even if it does have a solution. my friend wanted to buy a 40gb white PS3 today and he ended up getting an 80gb unit cause AC just plain wouldn't work! (i guess it's a good thing he absolutely wanted to try the game before buying the console too. -_-;; )

I'm more interested in how you managed to test it on so many versions of the PS3???? I know there's supposed to be no region coding but buying the correct version for the machine you have is probably the only sure way to make sure it works.

The regionless thing is a myth, PS3 blu-ray discs, like all blu-ray discs, have three regions. It is up to developers and publishers if they region code their games accordingly.

Very few so far have bothered, but they all could if they so choose.

we got to test it out on many PS3s cause my friend was going to buy a PS3 at that store, and the store owner wanted to land a sale. well, AC didn't work on it, so he ended up buying the 80gb.

and i'm not sure if it's a region coding issue.

US AssCreed + 40gb white Jpn = fails
US AssCreed + 40gb white Asia (PAL) = fails
US AssCreed + 80GB Asia (NTSC) = works

if it were a region coding issue, AC would have failed on the 80gb as well.
