I'm playing Desert Siege in elite mode and on the first mission I tried to get all 42 kill's useing only my sniper. Two tongo's fell to AI and I only got 40 of the 42. Fair enough but don't you get a congressional medal of honor for anything over 30? All I got was a distingiuised service cross. While I'm happy to get the DSC I have to wonder what it would take to get the CMH. Some of the kill's were with frag's but surely that won't matter?

To wallasan10,
You must be under heavy enemy fire to get any medals for the allocated kill ratio.
Medals and Badges
Bottom Row:
. Combat Infantry Badge (CIB) - This is given after a soldier has participated in one combat mission. It is given posthumously if the soldier is killed in the line of duty.
. Campaign Ribbon 1 - This is awarded if a soldier has participated in any of the missions that make up the first part of the campaign.
. Campaign Ribbon 2 - This is awarded if a soldier has participated in any of the missions that make up the second part of the campaign.
. Campaign Ribbon 3 - This is awarded if a soldier has participated in any of the missions that make up the final part of the campaign.
Top Row:
. Purple Heart dead or wounded - This is awarded if the soldier was wounded on a mission.
. Bronze Star 15 kills - This, and all other medals, are awarded for killing large numbers of enemy soldiers and repeated exposure to enemy fire.
. Silver Star 20 kills
. Distinguished Service Cross 25 kills
. Congressional Medal of Honour 30 kills -Decorations which have not been earned

That must be what happend, Many of my victim's never knew what hit them. I like to shoot and run. I may not get the medal I was after but THEY are dead, not me!

That's normally the best way to have things! I have to say I prefer killing to dying... /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif
Don't feel too bad about no Medal. I did a mission one time and bagged myself 98 kills with Astra - most with her SVD, but a couple with her pistol (I was in a building!) - and I only got a silver star for that. I was very, very un-amused! /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-mad.gif

OK.....maybe I aint been paying attention. What good are they (medals) for game play? Do you get extra combat points or something if you get medals? I just aint paid them any attention so what they good for if don't help with game play?
I doubt the AI will be impressed with them.

They help not one bit that I know of, but that won't keep you from getting them, I bet most everyone has at least one.I also rename my team members, dont help with game play other than to make it more fun for ME. Thats why I play the game and when it stops I'll move on.

It makes absolutely no difference in-game whatsoever. None at all. No extra combat points or anything. They're just so you can feel proud of yourself.
If anything, they'd hinder you, not help. Running around a warzone, with all those shiny medals glinting in the sunlight, clinking together making noise... Not exactly stealthy is it?!? Although I suppose if you got shot in the chest, and the bullet hit one of your medals (a purple heart for example - instead of your heart!), they might stop the round for you - extra armour, if you like. And, at the end of the mission, you'd even get a new purple heart to replace the one that just got broken! /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

YO, SNIPE! Now THATS what I'm talking about! How "it look's" For me the hard ones were the one's where you have to count the kill's so you know where to stop and the purple heart. It's easy to get one and die, not so easy to get one and live when you are on your way to glory! I don't know how to explain it but I just want them all "lit up".

Deliberately trying to get a purple heart?? Seems a little crazy, but if you're determined to do it, equip one of your team with a useless gun (MP5-SD, or M9-SD etc - there's no firepower in either of them, so you'd have to be really unlucky to die from a round), and then just shoot your bloke yourself. Using those guns, and putting the shot in his foot or something, you're almost guaranteed to survive... /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Now to shoot yourself is pure stupidity. To go through all that pain for a worthless purple heart. I feel you only deserve the purple heart if you were fairly injured on a misson by an enemy soldier. And then if you shot one of your own soldiers, delibretly, and they didn't shoot back then I would have to say that is the programers fault.

Hey, xboxghost, they don't shoot back because unlike you (hypothetically, if you shot your own guy), they have honor and intelligence. They sure do get upset and yell at you though. This is particularly fun with the helium cheat on (I did it the first time I got the cheat to see what they sounded like-didn't want to wait for contact, so just started shooting whoever was close... /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif By the time the enemy who heard the shots arrived, I was down to a lone, wounded sniper. He took the bad guys out, but I was bored at that point, so turned it off. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

If you're really concerned about it (or if you're just curious to see what it takes), you can usually get an enemy to fire at you when you are behind a wall or other obstacle, it doesn't matter that they can't hit you only that they're shooting at you. To get the Medel of Honor you will probably have to entice them to shoot at you quite a number of times since they don't just keep shooting after you do it the first time. Note: The AI does NOT run out of ammo.

Also, and this is another really lame part of an otherwise pretty good game, medals are given out based solely on the body count you inflict. You could single-handedly destroy four tanks, but get no medal. In real life they would decorate you for sure.
