On mission 5, after putting the injured man in the infirmary, I go to the server room, according to this,

20. Drop in on this guard. Take his satchel for a data stick. Use the red computer and a mini cutscene plays of the fire door opening.
but when I do it theres no one there and I use the computer and nothing happens.

Are you using the computer on the right side? Have you tried going to the fire door to see if it's open?

I know there's 2 computers in the room, in fact, you can see 2 in the picture you linked. Either way, have you tried simply restarting the level? I know that's a pain, but it shouldn't take long to get back to that point since you know how to do everything.

If that doesn't work, then I don't know what to tell you.

Taking into consideration that it's been a few years since I've played through this level, I am seeming to recall an instance when the door didn't open. I believe I restarted the level (at least just before the little mid-level loading point when you get into the elevator after the parking garage) and that fixed the problem. I don't remember more than that, but I think it did happen to me.

I'll have to restart, it still does nothing, the second PC does nothing.

I've tried to reproduce this a couple of times.

The first thing I tried was carrying the hacker to the infirmary but not talking to him afterward. When I use the computer (the one with the red screen) it opens the door. Whether I talk to the hacker a second time (when he passes out) or not.

You can't get to that point without throwing that switch under the auditorium. So that can't be it. And you can't get that far without disabling the bomb. So that's not it, either.

There are no other objectives up to that point. So I'd have to say it isn't doing that because you missed something.

If you're using the computer with the red screen I don't understand why it doesn't open. I've played this level probably 25 times and it has never failed to open for me.

Of course, I'm playing an "original" (read _old_) copy of SC1 that has been patched to version 1.3 (for the Kola Cell missions).

But it worked fine before when it was at version 1.2, too.

Did yours come out of the box at version 1.3? Did it come with the Kola Cell missions? If it didn't come with the Kola Cell missions it might be 1.3 anyway.

How old is your copy of SC1 and how did you get it? (OEM?, New Old Stock purchase, repackage retail? D2D purchase?)

If it didn't come with the Kola Cell missions you might try downloading those and installing the 1.3 patch (as well as those three missions) and see if the problem goes away.

One thing, we all know the missions by their names and not really by the mission number. So mission 5 becomes Kalinatek, mission 6 becomes Chinese Embassy 1, and mission 7 becomes Abattoir. It also helps to nail down which incarnation of Splinter Cell you're talking about. They all have a mission 5. But only one has a Kalinatek mission.

Using the mission names will get you help quicker than using mission numbers. Because then we have to either figure out which game you're talking about from your question (not always easy) or just ask you which just delays a helpful response.

I restarted from a auto save and this time the guard was by the PC, I conked him and used the PC, this time I got the cut scene, of the door opening, I went on to get stuck on the jumping, I've done it now, I've no idea how I did it, it was luck.
