View Full Version : Disconnected From the Host

Is the "Disconnected from Host" error related to not having the correct ports open?
The only thing I found in my searches relating to opening ports was referring to getting stuck at the matchmaking screen.
The last two days, I can't play a full match. I get disconnected, start a new game, go right back to the one I got kicked out of, then repeat. I've only had this problem a handful of times unitl the last two days. Now it is everytime I play.
Anyone else see and increase in disconnects, or have a way to remedy the issue?
(BTW, happens in every game mode, player, ranked, no DLC, DLC 1.0, DLC 2.0, DLC 3.0)

hey Dig
I get the "disconnected from host" message a lot, but I haven't made any changes to my modem ever (I've had it since January) and never used to have an issue with it. Very annoying, especially when - like you - it puts you back in the same game, sans points. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/compsmash.gif
Sorry I can't offer any constructive advice on how to fix it...

If you get that once you're in the match and actually playing, I'd say there's no relation to open ports. At that point, you're communicating successfully with all the players.
What's more likely is there's a lag threshold with the host, and you're unfortunately stuck in a bunch of high-latency games that cause you to exceed that and get booted. When it happens to me over and over, it's definitely "HULK SMASH!" time. I don't know of a solution other than to stop playing and try again later.

i would kill for a remedy to this issue, its become pretty normal for me ever since the dlc and driving me nuts... if this keeps up i probably won't be able to play this game much longer http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/51.gif

Thanks for the replies, folks. I'm bummed to hear that there isn't really a solution for this. I find it very weird that in the last couple days its gotten so much worse...
@ hoserama99--
I'm not a real network savvy guy...does this mean that my connection/internet stinks or someone that I'm playing against has a stinky interwebs?

Happens to me on the PS3 a few times. I would shoot a guy and a minute later he would die and I get points. Samething when someone shot me and a minute later I would die out of nowhere.

That's lag. We are talking about getting booted from the game with a message that says disconnected from host.

DigDug -
Most likely you're playing against someone else who has a bad connection and they are the host.
A few of the games we've played together where you've been disconnected I've seen a player either get stuck midair or shoot across the board which tells me there is a connection with a laggy host.
What does you Network status say through XBL? You might want to turn port forwarding on just to be sure. While your connection is fine it might help you stay in a game when connected to a laggy host. Can't really hurt and it's pretty simple (this from a dude who just learned how to set the time on my Betamax.)
I've also found turning all DLC OFF helps on my end.
I noticed an increase when the new DLC 3 came out and I've reducced it significantly by enabling port forwarding - still not perfect but I can get 5 or 6 matches in before I get a disconnect from host.

It just means something is slowing down the connection between you and the host. It's pretty much out of your control, unless you're saturating your connection with bitorrent or something.
Sometimes if you have cable broadband, your connection is bandwidth-shared with some of your neighbors, so it's possible one of the two of you is suffering from a piggy neighbor too. It's impossible to tell, really.
The best you can do is live with it and hope the next title update for AC:B doesn't allow you to connect to players who have a high ping from you. Short of dedicated servers, that's the best Ubisoft can do -- at the expense of making matchmaking times longer again.

@hoserama, @Purrkinator--
Thanks, guys. I'll do some tinkering and see what my port forwarding looks like. I do have cable broadband, maybe that's the issue.
Still seems weird that it worked like a champ for 6 weeks, then all of a sudden, its booting me from EVERY game.

So it was a little better last night. Got disconnected from about every 3rd game. Still rage inducing, but a little better than being disconnected from every game.
One dude called me out after he beat me 5,000-4,000. Said something like "you really aren't a grandmaster. You're pretty much the worst grand master I've ever seen."
Funny thing was I got disconnected at the 6:00 mark with 4000 points. Rejoined with 3:30 left and put up another 4,000.
4,000 + 4,000 = 8,000. Not to mention the points I could have scored during the "forced halftime." Pretty easy for me to see who was better.

I'll let disconnected players add up their two totals and will recognize my loss if they beat me.
People did it to me on that Assassinate game I got disconnected from 4 times.
0 + 200 + 0 + 200 = 400 ;-)
Haven't been on all week (busy times) but looking to play some matches with you over the weekend.
