I was headed into the Sea of Japan. Play around with SS's alot and just happened to see some mines. Not sure what happened, but I watched my boat get stuck on or in one. I thought it wouldn't explode as it flowed in and out my ship...you know the game. Trying to get away I just went to periscope depth, probably should've dived. It finally blew and did about 70% damage.

I always fix pressure hull damage first. I just wonder if there is a better order. Should you fix pumps first, ect.?

I played the game a long time and only noticed a few months ago that men in damaged compartments actually show they're repairing, why men not in damaged compartments show watch standing. So I will always put better repair guys in damaged compartments. Let's say your con tower is damaged. Is it better to put your best engine guys in the damaged compartment itself or in your damage control party? Make sense....

Both the engine room and con tower took the same amount of damage, red bar to the top. I noticed the engine room with the better repair status guys repaired it in half the time.

Just seems things fix much faster with putting the better men in the actual compartment than the damage control team.

Bulkhead's, pumps,.... depending on situation, electric, diesel engines...I also move " non injured" crew members into positions where the injured were. I have noticed that the "watch" crews seldom get injured submerged, so I move them to the hardest "hit" area's.

In a serious situation (extreme flooding ) all crew are at Battle Stations till I feel that the boat is out of danger. Then I replace the crew as above mentions.

You can see the mine..Funny it just flowed in and out the ship. Not sure why it finally exploded. Sometimes you could see it inside the sub.

Still alive trying to get out of the Sea of Japan. However, a dd coming about 7000 yds away.

Can't dive....

You must have gotten to that "magic spot"......lol

Good luck mate, but I think I would have tried to go deep, not surface, and speed 0 knts.

Well, I seldom use save points, but I saved when I saw it bobbing up and down through my ship. Late 44 and I ain't starting over again if I don't make it.

I thought if I tried to rise up when it was bobbing down I might make it. Got a SS of it exploding at the deckgun. Lucky I'm alive.

Did take out the dd with a DTT and got back to the surface...so headed home. Guess the SOJ is really mined late war. I looked around and dern mines everywhere.

I wouldn't move anyone from the damage control compartment. They are assigned to go to the areas that need fixing anyway. I noticed, in the past, that moving guys around from one compartment to the next is best done while in home port. That probably explains why my torpedo tubes (eventually) were loading slower during my first career. Now, I leave the guys assigned to that area alone and the tubes load quite fast.

just a note...lol....I always move them back after the crisis is over, or the originals have "healed".

As far as dead or most , or all of the crew in the same condition, then I guess there is no sense moving them temporarily.

I'm always moving guys around. When I dive, I'll put the guys on deck watch with high gun ratings on the front tubes, ect. Most of your watchmen have high gun ratings.

I'm sure without a doubt you put good mechanics in any department that is damaged it gets fixed much faster. Not sure how the game is programmed, but if you have a compartment that is damaged, put your arrow over any man in that compartment and he will be repairing, put it over someone in a undamaged compartment he is listed as watch standing, so I'll move my best repair guys to the compartment that needs it.
Repairs happen much faster

When everything is back in order I move people back to where they belong. Also makes me wonder about those special ability people. Mostly it's sonar and radar, but you can have a engine room guy that is special ability that only works when he is in the control room. To make half of them work you have to place them in a compartment that they're not rated for.

which strait were you trying to pass? Best advice for Tsuguru(sp?) and Le Perouse Straits are to lay outside in deep water until dark, then pass through at flank speed...no need to dive for plane, with radar can usually avoid patrols if you can encounter them.Same for exit. This is how they did it in real life i read, even once SM sonar came around, too shallow and heavily mined to safely pass it submerged.Just some helpful advice.

The one at Hakodate.. I made it back. Seens things get tougher going into 45 trying to get into the Sea of Japan. Been there many times earlier and never seen a mine and this time it was full of mines or I just finally looked around and saw them. In one area you could about walk on them. And the planes, one after the other. Had to dive once. Running at 100 ft with my bow pointed up at flank to keep from going down under....always fun. Finally will see the end of the war, but I did use two saves...just couldn't start over again...maybe next time. I think it's impossible to go the whole war and live.

"I think it's impossible to go the whole war and live."

Many have said that they did it,

I know I am career 8 trying without starting over. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/53.gif

and the closest I have gotten is March 45

I've gotten close a few times. Made it to 45 and never figured how I died..just riding along and massive damage...guess a mine.

Course in reality we wouldn't be making 30 war patrols either.

lol nice one ducimus.

MWOLFE, you went through the Tsugaru Strait, it is heavily mined and patroled the whole war, you just got lucky.Easiet way and the way the SOJ was usually entered was thee La Perouse Strait at night. Not sure if mines there but patrols if its not your lucky night, but can make the transit at flank speed and usually avoid them.As said, much safer and less time consuming to haul *** through at night on the surface.

I've made it to the end without saving before, not easy though, much like it really was, involves some luck.

Well, my mission was there, so there I went....Had to drop a spy off near Hakodate.
I never take the time to go to SOJ, but I guess nearing the end...that's where you go.

The action was actually fun. In the end I got home with 87% damage only to get another mission into SOJ. I had more than a half tank and we paddled back in to base.
