German deception efforts.

I love collecting the obscure and different. Add some more if you have them.

Anyway, we see Allied deception efforts often enough, but here is an assortment that I have collected of some German efforts that I though you may all appreciate.

We have some Japanese decoys inthe game, but I would like to see the possibilities expanded.

I love the first one. On this Ju88 fighter version they have painted in some fake glass to give the impression that the plane as a mere bomber. Maybe a careless enemy will stray too close.

The following are a series of airfield decoys.

Love those cows.

This is actualy a derelict French fighter put to use as a decoy. note the Roundel on the bottom of the wing.

This decoy is on a track.

This is what the caption to this image reads.

In and around Berlin camouflage against air attack was carried to extremes. By lavish use of netting an attempt was made to disguise big building blocks so that roads appeared to across them. The pavement of the great east-west traffic artery was hidden by netting on poles, from which the tops of spruce 'trees' prodruded; the Victory Column in Grosser Stern, a square on the same thouroghfare, was painted grey and its base concealed by a timber structure. On the lake in the Lietzensee park the Germans erected a suburban landscape, with grassy lawns and red rooftops supported on posts.

the bomber that isnt ruse might work well, was not all bomber gunners would fire, that would give away there position...

worst case of wrong camo was the gestapo, who cleverly decided to camo there bulid, paint it green etc.

problem is, it was in the middle of a city http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif
still probably be ok, as no one would bomb it cos of the civi causalties.

but then mossies went "you is wrong!" and bombed it from low level http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

One of the most amusing incidents (which may be a myth) was the dummy factory in the UK that a German bomber bombed with dummy bombs...

What a happy world if all bombs were dummies dropped on dummy targets http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-tongue.gif

I can think of a few dummies I'd like to drop from a plane. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/59.gif

Great stuff. I remember reading about a industrial area in California that was dressed as a suburb, complete with laundry on clothes lines that was moved daily and dummy vehicle that were also moved around.

I love the cows

The Ju88 was disguised to get the enemy on the ground to fire at the incoming bomber, giving their specific location away for a gunnery run (bombers usually go after more substantial targets than light or medium AAA).

Also of how fires were started at night to draw the pathfinders off course....

amusin thing about that on daii, is they have it white to blend in with the sky, but then they go and paint a dark splodge on it http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

the "grey ghost" type paint is supposed to be a compromise, for blending in with sky, or sea, or winter terrain

at least for DF'in, the false canopy may momentarily mislead opponent as to attitude...could make all the diff in the world
"how the hell can he sustain that kind of neg G?" haha

@wayno~germans actually tried to duplicate PF flares, too...most crews could differentiate them though...diff intensities, hues, etc

ironically enuff, the best way to avoid the tgt getting hit soundly, was to mark it clearly, lol
attackers either thought it a decoy, or, more often than not, would be the common event of bombers dropping loads too early, resulting in the loads falling "backwards" away from tgt in increasing distance

the sharp PF's would drop flares off tgt, to the far side of it, resulting in the "backwards" creep actually getting on tgt, lol

Some fascinating details about German countermeasures to H2s and marking, are available here:
