I've found a few more weak points on ships. Anyone who wants to add, feel free. Please note that it assumes a solid attack angle (88-92 degrees). Range is irrelevant. Depth is set to minimum. I haven't tried the SH3 tactic of a torpedo under the hull, so if anyone's tried this, I'd like to hear your thoughts. I'm all about creative use of torpedoes. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
Large Tanker - a torpedo hit directly below the rear smokestack that causes a secondary explosion (you have to be dead on to cause this) sinks a tanker (albiet slowly) 100% of the time. Strangely, the bow tends to stick out of the water for awhile before sinking.
Heavy Cruiser - I seem to only ever see the largest heavies, but a torpedo between the two funky smokestacks that blend into one causes a secondary explosion that sinks it every time.
Fleet Carriers - I'm still working on this one, but a torpedo directly below the conning tower on the side OPPOSITE the tower seems to trigger a chain reaction about 50% of the time. Failing that, I've never seen a carrier I couldn't sink with two torpedoes - one in the front of the conning tower and one about 3/4 of the way back. They roll over and go down.
Large Composite Freighters - a torpedo just in front of the main superstructure causes a secondary that cuts the ship in half. This is an odd one, when I've missed the critical location it seems to do absolutely nothing to the ship, other than make it start to zig zag.
Destroyers (all types) - a torpedo directly below the conning tower will either cause a secondary and blow the ship or simply sink it, depending on the type. This has to be done with a solid 90 degree shot, not a from the hip while you're being chased attack.
Ships I haven't been able to take with one shot:
Battleships of any size
Seaplane tenders (but I rarely see them, so not much practice)
Pretty much everything else is a one shot kill if you hit the boat in the right place.
