OK, maybe a noob question but i have to know: I play with no updated contacts enabled. So, why do i keep getting the little red squares on my map? An explanation would be that if my crew can see it on any sensor, it gets marked. But then, most of these contacts are, like, 200 km from me. I don't get 'em by radio and i don't see 'em. Whats goin on and how can i get rid of them? They ruin my reality settings. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_confused.gif

Its generally contact reports from other German units (be it uboats, surface ships, or the Luftwaffe). And they don't show up in the radio message screen, which is quite lacking in terms of radio chatter. GWX apparently fixes that, but i haven't updated yet.

So it shouldn't really interfere with your settings as presumably axis units tried to communicate with each other.

Well, if thats the case, its good enough for me. As long as it isn't a radio comm bug or something. Thanx dsheerin.

lol

apparently there is no.. 'dr Milton" in the word.. team. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

YOU are not the only one fighting the war buddy. and as the responder suggested these are reports coming from your comrads at arms.. not a bug. Trying to play this game without those tidbits of help and be successfull would be painfully "real". Its the axis way of throwing you a bone.. be thankfull.

I wish that too doven. It's just that i would prefer those contact reports to show in my radio traffic just like convoy contacts (I thing thats how it was in SH2). Nothing against team work (if only i could indeed call for an escort on the way home...) http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Ostensibly, these reports emulate contact reports from other German vessels, aircraft or radio intercepts. I've found over time that these are fairly regular from game to game. For example, west of the Orkneys and Hebrides I routinely get these reports in the same general area. I've had these reports so often in bad weather that I have come to the conclusion that this is a flawed implementation of the idea of "many eyes" at sea providing feedback to the war effort. These reports, in my opinion, are too frequent and that their occurence in bad visibility conditions is just too unbelievable. I've been in heavy fog at night and had these reports so often that you can't attribute them to another U-boat or aircraft. Nobody could get off so many accurate reports under such conditions. If it makes you feel better, you can pretend these are reports from other U-boats, vessels and planes. Even if these were entirely removed from the game there are still plenteous enough targets. I've done whole careers where I deliberately ignore these contacts and still haul in the tonnage. These are consolation prizes to inexperienced players; veterans players know how to find tonnage in the absence of these reports.

oh I hear ya.. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif Some things like what you mention definately would add to the environ of the game.. add more immersion for sure. I will say that GWX can go overboard (no pun intended) with the amount of radio reports you get that are only meant for immersion and have no relevence at all. Having the contact report as said like convoys would be cool.

As for experience and those consolation prizes you speak of. Its easy to find tonnage, find a port, use the maps, read up or take notes from previous sortes of course. But I assure you that people that use contacts for there tonnage is no measure of "experience" within the game. Just because one may run down a contact or play in that way does not make them "in-experienced" in the game. Its all a matter of perspective.

I play DiD.. and take any contact that comes close to interception, including convoys.. lol, and Ive played this game since release. I look at it as contacts made by other axis and find it enjoyable that way. Unfortunately for the Dr. its not an option that can be turned off or made radio.
