OK, Here's my gripe, all I keep reading throughout this forum is mods fix this and mods fix that. And that its a great game because of how modable it is, well thats all well and good, but if it doesn't run without the mods THAT is a problem. Modding should be used to create a better experience based on a persons preference, not relied upon to make a game, a game that I know I spent a good deal of money on, simply function! That is not the responsibility of modders, its the responsibility of those who create, market, and sell these games. I see many "ifs" when it comes to more patches. I for one will not be purchasing any more titles from UBI if they can't fix a product that they created. I loved this series so much, but when I can't get through a patrol without my game crashing, then I really find it hard to even start the game up, I'd rather go play SH4 again.

I've found SH5 OK without the mods - so long as you don't enhance the torpedo range/speed. If you do, the TDC no longer works properly. Besides, I don't think that adds anything to the game.
I had a handful of crashes before I installed my first mod. I've had a couple since. I save frequently - though make sure you enable local saves.
I, too, have reinstalled SH4 with the relevant mods. I enjoyed that game and probably would have kept it on my machine except that I had a hard drive crash and lost everything. After I installed a RAID 1 configuration (so I would be able to recover in the future), I never bothered to reinstall SH4. I've rectified that.
However, although it's installed, I'm still playing SH5. One thing I'm very interested in is whether or not the wolfpack attack I witnessed was a one-off event or is like calling in airstrikes. If one can call wolfpacks, that adds an extra dimension to the game.
