Sam Fisher's predeccessors
Now that I think of it, I've always been into these espionage games since I was a kid, LOL
Mission Imposible
The good levels in this game are really pretty good. For instance, on the embassy party level you must assume the identity of a specific guest. To do so you have to knock him out, but you can't just walk up and smack him. Well, you could, but that would blow your cover. So you have to lure him away by putting nausea powder in his drink, forcing him to run to the restroom, where you can knock him out unseen, and then use your face maker to assume his identity. Once you've taken his appearance, making it past the guards is a breeze. There are other instances in which the interaction between your character and the characters in the game is subtle but smart. For example, when you are in a place where a gun would be inappropriate, like a hospital, the characters in the hospital start screaming that you have a gun, thus causing a big stir, and security is dispatched to come and pick you up. The AI's behavior gives the characters in the game a life of their own.

Super intricate story driven Stealth Sneaking since 1987.
Ohh the atmosphere, the many character relationships, the layered message about
nuke policies, politics and life....

Metal Gear Solid, yes. As much as I enjoyed the game I never understood the story past the 1st game. But anyway, yeah, Splinter Cell is basically the game that got me into the stealth genre. I hated stealth games before Chaos Theory.
When SC1 came out I actually rented and thought it was boring and stupid, but of course back then I was 12 and I was more of the halo type. When Chaos Theory came out, I rented it and was like ZOMG amazingness and ive been a fan of splinter cell since then. I own and have beaten every game except essentials.

YES!!! Mission Impossible for N64! When i was younger, i had an N64 with 4 games. Mission Impossible, Mario Tennis, a mortal kombat type game i cant remember, and 007 goldeneye. and those were the greatest games ever.
syphon philter 2 was pretty decent. and i had alot of fun with 007 nightfire's MP. (my friend could chase me up stairs, through rooms, and down hallways with a rocket while he was across the map) of course the 007 games have gone downhill from there.
and i couldnt get into MGS since i was playing MGS2 (the first one i played) and couldnt beat it because i forgot to pick up an ak47 like 9 levels back and just overwrote my save game. havent liked it since

Mission Impossible was a very good game. I really like most of the missions in that one. Especially the one where you have a sniper rifle in the train station.

I never heard of Splinter Cell until I played it at my friend's house. I went the day after and bought it. Played every game except Essentials and I am currently reading the fourth SC Novel.

Oh man MI on the 64, what a memory jogger http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif
That was such a fun game with the different styles of gameplay in different levels, but I remember getting so frustrated with some parts of it. I still have my N64, wonder if I still have Mission Impossible ... I'll have to look, but I don't think I do http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif
And an even bigger memory jog bringing up Elevator Action http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I got it in December of '03 when I got my Xbox. I had remembered a friend talking about this cool game called "Splinter Cell" a few months prior, and when I was choosing games I remembered the name he mentioned, found out it was a Platinum Hit and only $20 so I gave it a shot. How glad I was that I remembered the name, lol.

You know I always wondered if the books were any good. How well do they tie in with the games, chronologically? I should read them?
EDIT: I remember MI on the N64. I also remember it making me want to throw my controller against the wall.

The third and fourth book was hard to get used to because I loved reading it in First Person. Still good but definitely throws you off because of what you become used to reading.
