View Full Version : Ubi Sues Over Pirated Assassin's Creed

Ubisoft sues over Assassin's Creed leak (http://www.gamespot.com/news/6195570.html?part=rss&tag=gs_news&subj=6195570&tag=nl.e513).
Apparently an employee of the disk manufacturer snuck an early version of the PC version home and released it via the internet. Now Ubi wants money for breach of contract and damage to it's reputation due to reviews slamming Ubi for a crash part way through the game due to a bug that was purposely put there by Ubi.
Ubi has more to look at besides some jerk releasing pre-retail code into the wild. The quality of their recent games is less than desirable right now and this lawsuit will not make up for that. Maybe it's time for the heads of the company to take a deeper look into the reasons why their games are not selling well instead of blaming just piracy. While I haven't played it, I hear Assassin's Creed wasn't that great. We all know that Vegas and Vegas 2 had major problems and bugs in the first were not fixed for the second version.

Interesting....this would mean that there are approx 700,000 folks out there that "acquired" the game by "naughty means" and that allow their games to "dial home", thereby placing themselves into the category of "clueless". That's quite staggering in itself ! Now add to that the number of folks that "acquired" the game and didn't let it dial home....700,250 copies were probably pirated !
Aaarrgghh me hearties !

It's not even about piracy. It's potentially worst, if it was intentional. How many other developers got leaked through them?

This is VERY OLD NEWS
They were trying to repress several
review websites since they gave a
TRUTHFULL and finaly HONEST review
of the game which the game companies dont
like .
A lot of people have GIVEN UP on review
commerical sites since for the most part
always give a high mark review on all games
and its hard to get a REAL HONEST review
any more.
Another tatic is NOT to release a free demo
thus this will get some stupid people
to buy the game on false hope its not
another peice of crap and buggy like the
last few games in the series/by the same company

Thats a shame, Assassin's Creed is a really fun game by the way.

Ubisoft is the one who should be sued for releasing unfinished, broken games and then abandoning it's games and gaming community.
I don't approve of pirated games and have never used one.
I also don't know of anyone who has, but I just find it hard to have any sympathy for Ubisoft with their lack of support and lack of communication for Vegas 2 and other previous titles!!!!
Maybe they are getting what they deserve!!!
Pirating has nothing to do with supporting the games they have already released and players have paid good money for!!!
Ubisoft makes a ton of money for their ingame advertising, so even the pirated games create revenue for them.

Maybe at the beginning but then it got all boring and repetitive and the crowd stealth never worked anyways.

I don't advocate piracy but I don't feel sorry for UBI niether. They can blame themselves for piracy. Not releasing demos and releasing unifinished and buggy games cause people to turn to piracy as they don't want to pay for crap. I doubt very few of those 700,000 would of actually bought the game anyways.

One way to diminish piracy is to release a demo so people can try the game before buying it.
Another way is to provide an excellent multiplayer and coop online experience because that way you can at least control the online CD-keys and only have 1 unique CD-key logged in at one time.
If 700,000 people were logged as playing a pirated game UBI did not lose 700,000 X $60 per game. 95% of those people would never have forked over $60 in the first place.
UBI needs to quit crying and pointing fingers and start making quality games and communicating with the fans of those games.
If any UBI employee disagrees, then they should discus this here in an open forum and quit hiding. I have never seen a company full of so many employees that have such little pride for their employer that they just sit back and let us berate them without saying a word.

I agree, I do not thibk Ubi would have sold 700,000 copies of AC. Some of those who would have bought the PC version would have done so if Ubi were to have released AC when they released the console versions.
Much of this is Ubi's own doing though. While I can't speak for the guy who stole the code, I think he did it as a way to allow people to demo the game since Ubi has done away with demos. People are going to want to try before they buy a game. Ubi has forgotten that.

QFT!!!
As I said elsewhere, promises of changes are not being seen and I dare anyone from Ubi to say different. I really dislike being lied to.

I for one I'm extremely glad that people pirate the hell out of UBI games, perhaps now they will realize how those folks that paid for their game feel about their lack of support and buggy/shoddy games.
Edit: Was the bug placed alledgedly by UBI in the code made by RELOAD? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

This is exactly how Blizzard is doing to control piracy. They even released a patch to remove CD check for Warcraft 3 because they know they made enough money with it and that this game has incredible multiplayer! (I still play it and a lot of people does!)+ great map editor
And I agree, releasing a demo helps too

I hate to say this, but what's the lesser of the following two evils?
<LI> Rainbow Six Vegas 2
<LI> Assassin's Creed
I personally prefer AC over Vegas2. Why? AC might've had bugs, but it was FUN and was actually PLAYTESTED before it was shipped out. That, and Ubisoft actually put some effort into it. There's more than just gaining "XP" Pokemon-style like in Vegas2. There's morality involved, good vs. bad, etc etc.
Anyway, slightly off topic (what's this thread doing in the Vegas2 forum anyway?) but those are my two cents. Thanks for listening. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Its pretty simple to stop the dialing home feature. Simply load up pg2, if using vista then use f8 to disable driver signing and then load it up. Go here and download the block ip lists that you need (ubisoft) and add them into the url section of pg2's list manager.
pg2-
http://phrosty.phoenixlabs.org/pg2-rc1/#vista64
and all the ip lists youll ever need
http://iblocklist.com/lists.php
We should all be entitled to our privacy. If there are any good hackers out there reading this then I propose an attack on the ip that these games are using for advertising by replacing the ads they load with images like the dog crapping on ubisoft logo :-P
p.s. Niel....take your meds please.

^^Matt, PG2 is no longer developed or supported and it certainly isn't a good substitute for a water tight firewall such as Online Armor. PG2 is for noobs that frequent peer-to-peer networks for downloading torrents and file sharing. What on earth are you doing on P2P networks ?
BilBoTeaBaggins
08-08-2008, 05:57 AM
matt? my name is kyle.....and online armour is noobware. A software firewall will never replace a hardware firewall or an ip blocker. Im sorry you dont know your #$%$. It seems that you dont know what you are talking about either as i am in touch with 2 of the developers at pheonix. PG3 is on its way complete with a signed driver. This type of software doesnt require support since all it does is load the i.p.'s to block from b.i.s.s. or the website which i listed.
Upon closer inspection of your various other posts i must assume that you are in fact a an alias of ms. kleaneasy. Wasnt too hard to figure out really, since i know what im doing.
polemic
08-08-2008, 07:33 AM
Matt....errm, sorry, I mean Kyle...you mean that Online Armor really isn't the leading software firewall as tested by the highly renowned Matousec security folks ?
And you're saying that I really do need PG2 despite the fact that I already have a hardware firewall as well as the best software firewall installed client-side ?
And you're saying that I absolutely need to utilise PG2 to block nasty incoming probes from the RIAA despite my security protection and the fact that I never indulge in P2P activities ?
Yes indeed Matt...errmm Kyle, you really do sound as though you know what you're doing !
And as for kleaneasy, I'm not sure that she'll be flattered by your allegations.

Keeping on topic, this doesnt have anything to do with p2p, I was refering to the dialing home of Vegas 2 in order to update its adware. Go troll somewhere else.

Actually, I have no idea who polemic is and I was more cheering for you since it would nice to see if Ms-K has an alter ego or not so I have no idea why you think I am on his side.
The reason why I said that I hoped the thread wouldn't be closed or locked is because UBI mods are well known to do that when the going gets tough.

What have you done besides show us all you're 12?
Since you know all those devs why don't you do something useful and have them produce a patch. I have a lot of things I still need fixed. I'll give you a list.

Snipey, you do get around a lot don't you ? Do you like statistics ? I just love numbers, so consider this: since you registered your Snipey account about 15 months ago, you've posted an average of 5 posts per day (rounded up of course). Since I registered, I'm sitting at a measly 0.6 posts a day.....which means that you have approx 8 times the forum presence that I have (insert moderate applaud here).
I am NOT ms-kleaneasy, but that statement alone won't convince you or any of the other conspiracy theory mongers around here, which is probably why she hasn't even bothered to post a response....it would be futile. I am precisely what my name says....so if you want to dance, put on your best flak jacket !
This thread was more or less on track until Matt reappeared under yet another of his numerous forum accounts. He is responsible for posting disgusting pornographic images on this forum and follows me around like a lost puppy dog. Being a female, I'm used to that though.
I digress....since you will continue to conspire to the theory that I am the alter ego of ms-kleaneasy, watch out what you say to me, or I may have to spank you....ROFL !!
