I'd love to, but I get nothing when I search for players online. I guess my rank is too low? I have a broadband connection so that can't be the reason.

The only way to keep Vegas 2 alive is for Ubisoft to fix the game and release some new maps!

Not being able to find servers has nothing to do with your rank.
I have had new players join my server!

If you are behind a router try bypassing it just to try, and also check to make sure your firewall or an anti-virus program isn't blocking your connection to the servers.

I enjoy the High Stakes mode but without UBI fixing the dedicated server program, it's pretty much dead in the water. Sorry but that is about as positive as I can be atm.

I can see Severs and host them with out problems. But, when i try to join a server I get, The connection to the host has been lost.

Hi Julian,

I'm happy to see someone still trying to keep hope alive. I too felt the same way for the longest time. It was running pretty smooth in 1.02 patch. Didn't have much complaints at all. Up until 1.03 came out. It was a nightmare... If you havnt tried hosting your own server yet, maybe thats why you still have hope. Anyways keep it up and if ubisoft finally starts to care about the people that do buy their games than maybe there can be a change...

But yes its true the servers are dieing. Noone is to blame but ubisoft.

You're probably not hosting a DEDICATED SERVER..

If you kick more than on person, the server will crash.

On a dedicated server, fixed re-spawns and high stakes does NOT stick after the first map.

The server will crash randomly for absolutely no reason at all.

I'm speaking about DEDICATED servers.

OK here I am after several attempts to find server files or patch. It would appear that some of the guys have a dedicated server set up. My question is. Does anyone know if there is a dedicated server patch or file available for R6Vegas 2? If so where can I get it. And I really don't care who made it or who ripped it off from who.

I guess the next time UBI comes out with a decent game http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif, I'll have to see if you have to logon to UBI.com with whatever miracle they come up with. If so, it's expected now to have your server down at least once a day. You shouldn't have to "babysit" dedi servers.

viper you have made some peoples point in your without knowing it. why should we have to overlook the games many flaws and make believe it is awesome. dont get me wrong it is a fun game, but it could be soooo much more if it was finished and supported properly. i do hope it is completed some day, but that day is probably not close by or possibly ever.

Totally totally agree unclepaul69, this is a good game that COULD be freakin awesome! I'm convinced that Vegas1/2 are only prototypes for Rainbow Six 2010, which the 2010 movie may be out before the holidays and the Ghost Recon development team did announce going back to the basic gamestyle with new graphics(with help from the Left4Dead creators) like from the original 2001-2002 era, so maybe the Montreal Group will do the same for Rainbow.

JulianRoyal you have the most enthusiasm I have ever seen in the forums. I would like to salute you for your effort. As far as I can see Vegas may be a little sick but not dieing. I was like that at first, but then I was also hosting T-Hunt as Julian is.

When you start joining other players games in T-Hunt, you will soon learn what real lag is!!

I also find it pretty sad when someone has to come to a forum to beg gamers to play this game!

For a quick comparison, I just started up COD WaW.
This is on a week day, early afternoon:

3075 Servers running!
717 players just on one page of 22 servers!
(Servers can host up to 50 players and still play great)

Of course there are several servers with no players, but I doubt you will find 717 players on all of Ubisoft's PC games combined, and I didn't count total players! (Only 22 busy servers)

This surely has to say a little about the diffence in quality of games and game companies!!

Yeah I've played in cod waw with 52 players and ran so smooth.... NO LAG.

Than run a dedicated server for rainbowsix vegas 2 and it lags with only 16 players. Have to reduce it to 14 and at 14 still lags. Server running on fios.

The worse part is waiting for the room to fill. It takes forever... Dont know if it really is ubisoft fault or demonware netcodes to blame? since demonware also does cod waw. Kinda odd,huh?

Remember that a person in China could be on fiber and lag when playing with a person in Maryland who is also on fiber.

A lot of latency issues in Vegas 2 is because a lot of Europeans play on US servers that are populated during US prime hours and vice versa.

Don't mistake of confusing network traffic or poor routing between two points as bad game network code or a laggy server - This is not the case.

A lot of people also mistake FPS loss for network latency as well.



When I play on any of our US based squadgames I get no lag.

However I will see players from Europe with 200+ pings lag around occasionally then talk about the server lag.



Some FPS Games are less picky and you can play with 150ms ping or even a little higher without it being a big deal.

Rainbow Six games have never been like that even going back to the days of Raven Shield.

Whether it's the tactical nature/pace of the game or just the fact that UBI modifies all their Unreal engine products I am not sure.

However if everyone is playing on a server in the US with 100ms ping or less there will be no "Dedicated Server" lag.

At least not in the verses mode.



Today we are re-launching our Vegas 2 servers on a brand new dedicated dual woodcrest Xeon server in Dallas, TX.

ping the following ip address: 70.84.181.170.

The result will be your ping roughly to the server.

If you are 150ms or greater chances are you will see lag but at no fault to the server or the game.

It will more then likely be because of the physical distance between you and the server which typically equates into more routes and higher network congestion, higher pings.

More to the topic at hand.

The best solution to keep this game alive is to find experienced programmers who have the knowledge and are willing to make hotfixes and patches to the game.

Obviously they are somewhat limited due to the fact UBI has not released a .SDK.

However as you can see with the custom camo crash fix, the Hardcore mode fix, and soon the SADS crash fix that modifications can be done with the .SDK.

i agree if they would release one the community could do what it needs and wants, play the game as it should be played and with less problems. look at fallout 3 when the geck came out the mods and patches made a good game great. just my opinion though.

Tbh... Me and my friends bought this game for Multiplayer fun. Unfortunately this seems to be totally crap in this game as we can't all join the same server. Well.. we cant even see the same server in the server list.

So... why should I support this game. UBI took money from 5 peeps without any joy for us. It's money down the drain we would have better invested in another game.

As a result of that I personally don't care what happens to Vegas 2 unless they decide to re-work the Multiplayer feature.

- fixed gun sound loop bug
- made co-op story support up to 3 players instead of 2
- added support for a map editor or custom weapons
- added an option for a defensive or aggressive AI in terrorist hunt. Ie. enemies that defend rooms rather than rush you in droves.

That's one thing I loved about rogue spear; making my own weapons and maps. I'd love to make the pancor jackhammer and a better looking P-90, amongst other weapons.

I am going to not try to offend you but I don't care for your cheap shot a Lethal. As far as I can see he has provided more useful Imformation than anyone else in these forums. He has stated many times why he has given up on the the game,and also UBI as a whole. But he stays in the forums and offers great help to anyone who needs it.

I like you have learned to overlook all the faults of the game and play Terro hunt almost every day. It is not because I have any dedication to UBI, but terro hunt is a one of a kind format. If another company comes out with game that offers that kind of format Vegas 2 will go in the garbage.

In conclussion I would just like to say thanks for all the hoopla about keeping Vegas 2 alive. And rest assurd it will stay alive till something else comes along to take its place. And I am sure it will not be a UBI Creation.

I don't know if I ever had the pleasure of playing with you or not. I asked one of the people on your list about you and he said he never heard of you. So I am assuming you have a different useer name for the game.

As stated there are some new games soon to be released that are showing soom promise. When everyone finally quits playing Vegas I will have to move on back to war games. So I want to wish you the best of luck Jukian.

Interesting article Julian!

I especially found one comment concerning casual and hardcore gamers interesting.

Maybe the economic slump Ubisoft has encountered will help create more interest in the hardcore gamer.

It would also be very interesting to know if Ubisoft's losses are actually related to the casual gamer based on the economy, or rather it is caused by Ubisoft's abandonment of it's loyal gamer base.

No fixes of any significance.
No communication or support after release!!!

I, for one, am looking forward to the next UBI R6 release.

It means we get to see the spectacle that starts with the press release exclusives that only go to the web sites and magazines that always put a positive spin on UBI games no matter how bad they are.

It means we get to see quotes (also known as lies where I come from) like "Taking the R6 series back to its roots" and "what the fans want" and "not a console port".

It means some UBI rep like Goliath will come in here and tell us that the game is still realistic even though it has magic 3rd person view, health regen, and auto aim and is missing things like leaning, prone, and working doors.

It means we get to start up 100s of useless threads in here of what we want to see in the game, only to have every single one ignored.

It means we will get a few months of patches that don't fix any of the real bugs...but fixes things we didn't know were broken and removes some of the features we liked.

I changed my mind...I am not looking forward to it...carry on...

Just short and sweet refer to the post from Lethal,that about covers it all. I can't believe UBI is blaming the economy for lack of sales. That is one of the most arrogant bunch of trash I have read in a long time. I guess I don't know what to lable myself,hardcore or casual gamer. I mean when I get up from the computer I am short of breath for a moment but always seem to servive. So I guess I am a middle of the road gamer. So I assume UBI is not targeting me at all.

I read with great interest the link Lethal posted about Operation Flashpoint "Dragon Rising". Hard to believe one of the Devs is comunicating with game players in the developement of the game. What a pleasent change that was to witness.From what I saw you hardcore players have asked for hard core and it is going to be delivered. Hang on to your butts it is going to be a wild ride....lol.

Now if anyone from UBI happens to stumble on to this post maybe you will pass the imformation up the ladder and UBI will start treating people with respect and save themselves from a slow painful death in the gaming market. "NUFF" said.

Actually a better question, why doesn't Ubisoft support their own games after 3 patches that don't fix a quarter of the problems with the game?

How about the "match settings" crash in Vegas 1? I hope you all know that bug was put in the game PURPOSELY to get people to buy Vegas 2. Too bad it failed pretty hard, most of the Vegas community didn't even move on to Vegas 2.


Get with the program
Don't buy PC games from Ubisoft, you're putting your money in the toilet. They don't support their games after its released because they have a very small PC developement team that can't spend time working on previous games, only the new releases.

well i think that the game doesnt need patches as ladder, tournaments, clanwars and big community, aven if they stop patch ill still bought it

this isnt the only game with no patch nad huge community, jedi knight 2 series, more ppl play without patch than with it and support ended years ago, counter stike is also out of support. sierra lets it known a some time ago and still there are huge tournament and worldwide battles

The patches needed for Vegas 2 are for fixes concerning major problems with this game.

I checked Vegas 2 last night and there were:

3 Versus servers running
27 players hosting T-Hunt.

That is not a huge community!!

COD WaW will always have well over 3000 to 4000 servers running.

An old game .. Ravenshield .. developed by Red Storm and published by Ubisoft had 138 servers running.

I just now started a really old game that I played years ago called Quake 3 Arena.

2021 servers running.

well i got some weird master german version witch cannot be even patched, only thru autopatcher and ss.sour wrote that this version shows only server made by same version ...

btw i dont think that raven shield get so much playable because of patches, and u cant compare q3a thats a legend game, its like comparing cs with this

why do you think that communities and so many players always stick to some of theese games ? maybe ads, or history of good products, but well r6 got this too, why arent people playing it from at least 1/3 as cs ?

I believe Vegas 2 could have been a very fun and popular game still.
But, there are just to many serious issues along with the many bugs and glitches.

Lag is one of the major issues and the Ai really sucks.
Ubisoft abandoned the game only a few short months after release.

No fixes, and no communication.
Even the patches they did release fixed very little and in fact, created more problems.

They also released a broken SADS.

If Ubisoft had fixed and finished Vegas 2, it would still popular today, but I'm not so sure they really want that.
They would prefer players move on to their next broken title.

Vegas 2 with all the community hotfixes (high stakes + server crash 1.03 SADS) is actually very decent.

Certainly a lot better then Lockdown and Vegas 1.

The keyword in that is "community".

The players, not UBISoft, had to correct and fix their errors with the multiplayer verses mode without even so much as the .SDK files.

The server crash fix for SADS took an extensive amount of work and searching to fix.


It's up to us to keep this game ticking at this point.

UBI-Soft's is aiming at the console market not PC and all future titles will probably reflect that attitude.


We can hope that they sell the franchise off to another company that will take the game in a different direction.

Rainbow Six is dying and UBIsoft Knows that. So to make more money (which they like doing) Why don't they just sell Rainbow six and all of its trademarks to a proper company who can extend it.
This will make UBIsoft happy, the compny that buys R6 Happy, and best of all, the gamers happy

Hello, I've just registered to vote in favour of keeping Vegas 2 alive. It's just the best tactical shooter still out there. I have around 10 friends with which I play every week.
If there's another R6 to come, we'd be glad with only minor changes like story/maps/weapons/location. Thats because it's "almost" perfect.

Your loyal (but dwindeling) supporters are tired of incomplete, defective games. they are tired of dedicating thier time and effort to help you correct or improve a product (and increase YOUR profits), only to be ignored. In fact, they are tired of being lied to. I myself, after requesting a trouble ticket for the well documented, but as yet unresolved gun sound loop problem, was told "it's a known issue currently being investigated". This is nearly 3 YEARS after the launch of the game! Your answer was both patronizing, and a flat out lie. You can only put out inferior product, issue terrible post sales service for so long.. before your consumer base abandon for good.
