View Full Version : Make Me a Beta Tester.

Hello, honorable people of Heroes VI design team and forum users. My name is Cartesian214 and I want to get involved with this game as a beta tester.

Professionally, I'm currently a sophomore in college learning Computer Science.

Unprofessionally, I am active on several forums for professional games as well as community mods and projects. I've been gaming for over a decade and understand the mechanics of several dozen RTS and strategy games, as well as the inner workings and file structure of a few. By the end of this month I will have started work on my first IPhone game, and hope to put it on the App store within 6 months.

I'm tired of banging my head against the barrier between the professional and unprofessional sectors of game development. This is a declaration to the people developing Heroes VI as well as the community arranged around them:

It would be to your advantage to take me on as a game tester for your project. I have valuable input and will prove it to you here, in this forum. Over the next few days and weeks I will be posting a series of game design commentary with the goal of revitalizing this forum and bringing new insight to Heroes VI's development process. If you have time to follow my posts and like what you read, I'd love to get in contact and work more closely with the devs. If not, I'll come away from this project with new experience I can use in my NEXT attempt to break-in to the industry.

Your new acquaintance,

Cartesian214.

There's no information about if there will even be a betatest program for this game. If you want to give your opinion about the game, feel free to do so http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif Forums are for that http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Let's assume that H6 will come out next month or April, I wouldn't think that there would be time for a beta. Even if there were to be one, I would guess that it would be more of a timed demo than a beta. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

The recently released german footage appears to be from what was labaled as a Beta build.

This leads me to believe there might actually right now be a closed and private beta happening, probably under a heavy NDA.

Weither or not this is true and more then just idle speculation, I think a Beta could be announced in the near future.

As for the "no beta" theory, it seems strange to not have a beta, it's a good last phase to get rid of otherwise elusive bugs and balance issues.
Harvesting stats from an online beta is also often quite a reliable tool for last phase polish.

There is definitely a closed beta going on, that's how games are made. Even if the "closed beta" is five guys from the dev team who play the game for a week while they're working on it.

I know the chances of forcing my way in are slim, but I'm so sick and tired of computer school. Everything's graded based on how you do it the first time, when real-life programming isn't like that. You have debuggers and teams of people to make it perfect over time, and everybody on your team WANTS to be there. I wrote this post because I want to advance MYSELF for a while, through trial and error and looking stupid. I can learn more about game development from one forum conversation than an entire college course.

I don't see why you didn't just PM this to the CM. There's no point in discussing your personal beta application in public, and you are far less likely to receive a direct response here.

From what I read over at Heroes Community, the closed beta is already done. What did that last, all of 2 days?

If this is true, that's not a very good sign that they ended the beta test that quickly. There is no way to find all the faults in a game that soon.

LaBaule mentioned on the Russian forums that the beta testing is ongoing for quite some time now - maybe since December of possibly even earlier - but in a pretty closed circle. The insiders went to Hungary in the end of the last months to play the game themselves and it's quite likely that they are playing it as we speak (which will be for 1 month or so). Of course a confirmation is not to be expected. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif As for an open beta... If the game is supposed to be released mid May and given that the announcement of the fifth faction is scheduled for March, even if we they intend to make the beta open, it will be made accessible to the public no earlier than April. For some reason I doubt that it will become open though.
