OK now that we got lomac for some time (me for just 3 days http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif , but heavily on it) we can get some conclusions and sugestions.
Heres what i think of it:
-I have tryed Flanker 2.0 on my brothers portable (whos an aifroce cadet and has all the sims), I never got it since I didnt like much the AI and the frustration of Uber missiles, I didnt have time to dedicate to a sim like this, specialy because I have little time to play out of vacations (university)
I have to say the first thing that struck me in LOMAC, wasnt the graphics, but rather the F-15's and A-10's flightmodels. I had a taste on A-10 in the demo, but the F-15 surprised me.
I mean I have some vids showing F-15 flights from the HUD and LOMAC seems very convincing. Note that I'm picky about flight models, but have to say this is well achived, better than any other so far. I'm very pleased in this aspect. The only thing that need some polishment in this area is how
The nose bounces around even at high speed, wich makes somewhat hard to line up level or for a gun shot. Dont get me wrong, bouncing should be there, but more noticeable at lower speeds (say from stall to 400 knts).
-One other thing I noticedand apreciated was the AI. No longer the enemy mimic my moves in combat (but they do in formation) in flanker 2.0 I saw enemies play perfect syncronized and mimic'ed trajectories to avoid my mooves.
In lomac last night i fought a gunzo fight in F-15 (with wingman) against 8 F-16's in excelent AI mode, and it was delicious seeing them desperatly jinking in every direction and try to make me overshoot, but in a human falible way. It was a tough fight but After several minutes I smoked them all. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif neat.
It reminded me of Strike commander, strangely, and then I realized it was because I havent this much fun for years. Nostalgia. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif
-I liked the mission editor. The campaign falls somewaht short but I think this is gonna be solved by the fans somewhere in the future.
-One thing I didnt like was the key system LOMAC uses...I dont mean key combination since that I can custumize. I mean... why is Missiles and gun toggle in 2 seperate buttons??
I preferred AG and AA togle in 2 buttons instead (cycles through bombs, missiles and gun for each mode) Its a lot more intuitive and ppl are more accustumed this way, so are the real pilots.
The game is plagued by this in many other key funtions, wich takes a lot more programable buttons on my stick than necessary. But I gess this is a gene from other Flanker games.
-Another thing was that i realized, is this game is to played in the future. My poor T-bird 1200 doesnt take more than 8 AI entities without becoming unplayable, no matter what graphics setings I have, wich is frustrating.
At one time I have smooth 25 FPS and then when I join a furball it crawls, and even froze a couple of times.
-I have a nasty sound bug ingame, sometimes without warning the game starts to produce loud cycling scratching sounds obscuring everything else. Interstingly enough in my other PC is not afected by this.
So far i tryed many sims but only kept these on my HD (at its own time):
Microprose "Dogfight" (1992)
DID's "Tornado" (1993)
Origin's "Strike Commander" (1993)
Spectrum holobyte "Falcon 3 GOLD" (1994)
DID's "Total air war" (1997)
Microprose's "Falcon4" (1998)
EA "USAF" (for internet play only...yuck) 1999

I had one other that was my all time favourite but it was Origin's "Wing commander 2" (1991) and its not a "sim".
This is how good I rate LOmac, its on my 3rd place of preferences behind falcon 3 Gold and Strike commander...so far.
I see however much room fro improvement in Lomac:
1) A full FBW aircraft (F-18?)
2) Dynamic campaign made by fans.
3) Missile trails: why is flares smoke trails so much better than than missiles when in "simple haze effects"?? currently missiles leave "hiegenic paper" behind them, wich looks silly, would rather prefer
a trail made of consecutive round smoke sprites (like the one visible when you croos the flightpath of a missile trail in Falcon 4)
Another sugestion is to make the smoke trail grow in thickness directly behind the flame plume so that it doesnt look like a superfast flying pin.
4)Make pilots eject when hit by cannon fire on all aircraft, f-14 do but F-16 and 18's fly slowly to the ground with pilots in wich is odd.
5)why is that any plane that its hit and never blows up no matter how much damage it takes, even if 10 missiles hit it.
6)Another odness is that when i'm hit to a degree that my plane (or any other) starts to roll and pitch out of controll at over 50G's or so, and never desintegrates.
7)excess of damage should result in catastrophic and spectacular cripple of any plane and consequent explosion balls and flame trails.
