"During that invasion, Winters led 13 of his men in destroying an enemy battery and obtained a detailed map of German defenses along Utah Beach. In September 1944, he led 20 men in a successful attack on a German force of 200 soldiers."

I can only imagine the level of guts it took to pull that off successfully, let alone attempt it for that matter. Like his men said, Richard Winters was one hell of a leader. Men like him, Audie Murphy, et al, and all the soldiers who did great selfless deeds with nobody by chance to witness their heroism in any conflict are the true heroes in my opinion.

Richard Winters, RIP.

Just remember, he wasn't just a character in a series, he did those things for real. Real bullets. Real shells. Real men.

Ponder that for a moment.

I wish him as much luck in the afterlife, as he had in Normandy over 60 years ago.

RIP.

At the end of the Band of Brothers series, they had an interview of him.

His grandson (granddaughter) asked him if he was a war hero.
Hi reply: "No son (daughter), the real heroes did not come back home"

I'll never forget that statement... RIP http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/sadeyes.gif

To the biggest brother of the lot.. His biography should be required reading for any leader of men.

I read about that this morning. This is really sad news.
I had an opportunity to talk with him at the VA Medical Center in Lebanon, Pennsylvania. I was a patient there but haven't been there for a couple years.
Bill Guarnere also lives near me in Philly.

I'll check up on this, I would say it's a cliche as I've never heard anybody say it before the Band of Brothers interview.
