If the Old S-class boats did not have a TDC during the war, why is it included in the game. Is there a way to turn it off completley?

??? No TDC? What did they use to shoot torpedoes with? Most interesting.

Actually some of the S-boats did get TDCs in mid-1943. If you want to play without the TDC just don't use it. There is really no reason to need it, you know.

Check out this video for a new targeting technique: the John P Cromwell Attack Method (http://files.filefront.com/John+P+Cromwell+Tutorial7z/;12127008;/fileinfo.html) , including a method of plotting a zero gyro shot without using the TDC at all. As a bonus, this contains the first published video of a successful daylight surface attack.

Please ignore the grumpy captain. He hates to get wet in the rain when it's supposed to be sunny. Also toward the end of the video the sound gets out of synch with the video by about five seconds. I left it because of the successful surface attack. That wasn't planned and I thought it was remarkable that I wasn't spotted.

You are 100% currect. but it is vary hard to get those torpedo's to hit the prescribed target without it though. I do wonder how they pulled that off, they must have used some way of caculating there torpedo solution. I really liked the S-Class! I can't beleive they didn't want to add it in the game. I can't stress this enough I love manual TDC!!!! There is much more fun to have to figure out those solutions. What would be really cool if they could make it so you could plot the torpedo soulution the way they did it with real S-Class. Some how I find it hard to believe they just shot and prayed. That S-class looks like a Civil War steel battle ship on the surface and a fish under water. VARY Cool Sub!!!

I would say that, before the TDC come along, they had to use the "good ole" pen and paper method.

In that case, reality was that there were several highly trained men aboard doing what they had spent hundreds of hours practicing... I'll just stick with the auto button and adjust spread... (I 'm a flight guy by nature, but I just can't get away from SH4 right now...http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/metal.gif)

I learned how to shoot without the TDC on a patrol when my TDC was destroyed while taking a drubbing from a Fubuki DD off Sasebo, Japan.A depth charge exploded right by the conning tower, injured everyone inside critically...lowest health was 20/100, nearly destroyed the bulkhead, caused heavy flooding and as mentioned, destroyed my TDC.Honestly I was surprised I was able to repair and survive but I did.

Anyway, while on my way home I encountered a large old split freighter and decided to attack.I put myself about 600 yards off his track.Set my bearing to zero, range did not matter and speed to zero, just as the bow began to touch the wire at bearing zero on the scope) I fired 3 torpedos, all three hit along tyhe ship from the bow to amidships.Easy enough, the key is get in close.

I ended up using all but 8 torpedos while en route to pearl for repairs using no TDC and sank several more ships, so it can be done.I plan on doing an S boat campaign using no TDC eventually but may be difficult, S boats are slow and not as easy to con into an ideal firing position.

Can your crewmembers die from injuries? Have not had it happen.
