Hi fellow Mysters!

I would really, really appreciate your help. I don’t know much about computers. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

I completed the first Myst and most of Riven (I think! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif) before my laptop crashed (not related to playing Myst!). Dell replaced my hard drive and motherboard. My laptop’s previous operating system was Windows ME; however, when they put a new motherboard in I installed Windows XP Professional.

It’s been over a year since I last played Riven (the last time I played was pre-crash and pre-XP upgrade). But now I have time to play again, and I really want to play. Here’s my issue:

I’ve reinstalled Riven and installed Exile (I had to download a patch for Exile). The game image is restricted to a small box in the center of the screen. I remember there being a smaller black rim around the game image in Riven. However, the game image seems much smaller now. It fills about 50-60% of the screen (like 2 to 3 inch black margins).

Is this the way it’s supposed to be? It doesn’t seem right.

I tried to figure out this problem on my own. I searched the forums and saw that several times it was mentioned that 640 by 480 is the resolution the game is designed to use. However, my current display resolution options are only 800 by 600 or 1024 by 768. I’ve looked and I haven’t found a way to manually change the resolution to something different on my computer.

I don’t know if this matters or not, but I remember having different display options than I have now before my computer crashed and I installed XP. For example, I remember one of my color settings being “True Color.” Now my only two options are Medium (16 bit) and High (24 bit).

What do I do? I’d really rather not play the game with such a small viewing area. It doesn’t seem right that I’d have to buy something either because it seems like it used to work before I UPgraded to XP… Right? http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gif

Please help me!

Lady__Myst, the difference is in the motherboards. Graphics controllers are built into laptop motherboards, so when Dell replaced the motherboard, it changed the type of graphics controller as well.

Because your current display options don't include 640x480, the biggest game screen you'll get is with your display set to 800x600. Think of it as something like widescreen. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

As for color settings, there is little if any discernable difference between 32 bit and 24 bit as far as the games are concerned, so don't feel like you're missing anything there.
