Please share your thoughts on the style of game this will turn out to be (assuming its going to be a whole new franchise).

I personally feel that it will probably be a semi-RTS; you are a field commander, like ghost leader, but with many more units under your command. Instead of going completely in the direction of RTS, you will fight in a huge war on the front lines.
Im not sure how it will work but it sounds cool to me.

Could be anything. In fact, NO one knows what genre "Firehawk" falls under. However, since the Clancy moniker usually indicates something like control one guy, or a squad in a first person/third person action oriented shooter/adventure, thats what alot of people are expecting. If Red Storm doles out a RTS, I think many people would be shocked...

If they merged the games together, I could see something like a multiplayer class-based game like battlefield 2 or Frontlines: Fuel of War.

A MMO would be slamming too, but it would have to be like planetside where the gunslinging was twitch based and real time with vehicles, different weapon types and skills you could learn, determining your role or "class" on the battlefield, and not something cuddly for limp-wristed, no-reflex mothers who play World Of Warcraft.

Expect more in the following weeks.

late edit - I think I found our answer....This is the teaser site for Team Fortress 2!! Either that or Tom Clancy's Duke Nukem Forever: Ghost recon Splinter Six

I just posted a discussion about what I thought, sorry didn't see this before hand. I think it will be a Real Time Strategy. In the stories, there is too much going on for it to be a shooter.

This game sounds very complex, and I agree with you that there just seems to be alot going on. From the bits and pieces we have access to, it sounds like the US is being manhandled, much worse than what is going on in Vegas. The blown buildings and gunfights we had pale in comparison for what the future of America holds. If this was a shooter, it would be something like gears of war, or resistance, fall of man, where everything around you looks blown to h3ll and back, with a few good men trying to fight the good fight on behalf of a struggling nation.

And what about the theater of this war? Can we expect to be fighting in just the US or can we expect to be hopping all across the globe? Whatever is going on, as said before, I'm hooked and I would like to know what kind of game this is.

:P

I recently read an article in a PC magazine(UK gaming magazine I think) about an upcoming game (non-Clancy universe, but war type game) that was a hybrid RTS/shooter in which you could seemlessly go from one to the other. Could control unit as a tactical commander but if you wanted to could shift gears on the fly and take FPS control of the specified unit(s) and have more control over outcome. My bet is that the new Clancy title will be something along this line. The game mentioned sounded impressive and fun if it could be pulled off seemlessly.

you may be talking about field ops, which is a RTS/FPS hybrid being developed somewhere in Your-Up...

Another RTS based on a ww3 scenario is coming out soon, but it's a non-clancy title also. It's called World in Conflict and the killer is that it takes place in an alternate time line (1989) where the cold war actually went ballistic and people started getting shot the ***k up.

I'm thinking its a full scale war type game, like Call of Duty, but in the future and Tom Clancy style.

I think you are right -Field Ops is what I was reading about. Anyway how much more full scale can you get than RTS in terms of multiple skirmishes maybe happening at one time but with the ability to drop into a single battle and play FPS style game real time but without affecting the time scale of other things happening as tactical commander over larger campaign. The only thing that turns me off about this idea is that it would most certainly be single player only as multi-play would be way to complex to fathom.

mass destruction and anarchy, as described in the news reports and from clicking on the clickies on this site, could only truly be enjoyed as a RTS/hybrid, or something like call of duty where you got bad news all around you.

And you really believe that we are going to get it at this point? The 2-month turn-over of console players is where UBI is setting the focus, not the PC.

By the way, you are every marketing managers wet dream.

Survival horror.
In all serious this sounds to big to be a standard FPS.
