View Full Version : I Sleep With Doenitz

While using shift + F2 and moving around in my IIA I noticed a framed portrait of Doenitz hanging above the captain's pillow. Hm. I wonder why I have his picture there instead of my robust Aryan farm girl I left behind. Having to stare at his mug makes those patrols seem just that much longer....

And by the way, I have several boxes of "Zubahor" on my sub, what is that?

I stare at the sunsets/sunrises instead.

Hmmm, I think "Zubahor" or however you spell it may mean something like "accessories." Not sure, though.

Zubahor

putting this into my ms outlook translator it becomes "accessories"

...And what U-boat man would not want to accessorize? earrings, braclets, hair bands, etc. going On a long trip with a bunch of other guys you must plan and rotate your accessories... http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Just out of curiosity, are women allowed in the submarine force in your navy?

I know in Norway they have women submariners including a few who have been captains.

ummmh...from the TV show I saw she must have had a "Nasty" Viking in her heritage. Dark hair and looked like she could have thrown shot put in high school.

As for the US Navy, it still prohibits females in the submarine service. Does the German Navy allow women in the submarine service?

just to throw in that the British Navy also prohibits females from operating on submarines.

well, that was the case about four years ago when I got some application stuff from the Royal Navy, I suppose it could've changed.

Does the German Navy allow women in the submarine service?

Nope.

Only in the regular army. But there are only very few female recruits at the time beeing (as soldiers).

There were many female volunteers first (after the new law was in power) but lately ive read that the amount of female recruits gets less and less.

Mostly the drill seemed to be to hard for them so many gave up or transfered to the medical corps for example.

I dont think they are planning to allow wimen to the u-boat fleet. The training is even to hard for most men http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Man i remember what my grandfather told me about the basic Kriegsmarine drill in Stralsund. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-surprised.gif

His unit had an special exercise :

At minus 16 degrees celsius or even more out of the barracks at nighttime and into the snow. Then clothes off. No joke !

10 or 12 hours of drill completely naked (only boots allowed) in the snow at minus 16 degrees !

Everything under watch of some medics that made sure that no one died.

It happened everytime that someone collapsed with a severe shock. But that was "normal".

And always someone in your neck screaming at you faster , higher !

http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gif He said that there were even harder trainings to accomplish http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gif

The instructors always told them "Be glad that youre not in the SS" "Thats where they really beat the hell out of you" http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Off course this kind of (lets see who makes it and who dies) drill isnt allowed anymore today. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

But its still hard as hell. The u-boat men have to accomplish a basic training similar to that of the Kampfschwimmer (german Navy Seals) before they even get into the u-boat training.

And here she is:

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y1/Skarphol/SolveigKrey.jpg

Lt. Commander Solveig Krey, the worlds first female submarinecommander.

She quit the navy in 2001 after 20 years in the norwegian navy, 9 of them on submarines and 3 of them as commander of 2 different subs, KNM Kobben and KNM Uredd.

I don't think it's all that bad, though I admit that I don't expect her to appear in Playboy any time soon... after a couple of months at sea you'll long for that smile of hers to appear at the curtain of your tiny bed..

Anyway, considering that her career of 20 years in the navy ended in 2001, it is more probable she has an 18 year old daughter than an 18 year old sister..

Now, THERE's a Kaleun who just might accessorize!

Heh heh....makes me think of something funny...OK, so the stereotype for women is shopping, right...so, in Sault Ste Marie Ontario, Canada, there is a mall, the Station Mall, right on the water up there...don't know the depth of the water, but wouldn't it be funny to see a sub suddenly surface at one of the slips by the mall...the purpose would be shopping leave!! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif

Obviously, based on her record, this seaperson (ee gad...political correctness) seems worth her salt, so I CERTAINLY don't mean to be demeaning, only funny! Not that I even have the right, since I've never been in the service, although my dad fought in Cambodia during 'Nam on river boats (no lie!)

Ok, I know Lt. Commander Krey isn't Playboymaterial, but she was the most attractive submarine commander in 1995!!!

I think Norway have had another female submarine commander since Lt. Commander Krey.

At the moment there are no less than 3 female comanders on the Stridsb√¬•t 90-class of small assault-vessels the norwegian navy is working up on.

The only Ewa I know of is Ewa Sonnet, but I thought she was Polish, not Norweigian. There was also a Ewa Stromberg in the German Playboy, but that was back in 1984.

Just her first name Ewa is mentioned. 25 years old born in norway lives now in New York and wants to become an actress.

German Playboy ,June 2004.

She was NOT the playmate of the month ! She was to be found under this "Blende sechs" stuff.

And she is truly a beauty http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/heart.gif http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
