Well, a translation maschine can mostly only translate word by word, and not by full sentences!

My translation would be:
Can one hope to see lifeboats put into the water and be able to shoot at them from the bridge in SH4!

S'il faut traduire, il faut traduire correctement, n'est-ce pas?
If one should translate, it should be translated correct, right?
Wenn man übersetzt, sollte man korrekt übersetzen, nicht wahr?

"tirer" in French can mean to draw, but also to shoot, which must be meant in this case!

Sorry, couldn't resist to tease! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/10.gif

Sure, you can hope. What a stupid question! I can hope to have a full head of hair and a twelve inch ****, but neither is going to happen. Hope for whatever you like.

Malheureusement je ne parle pas très bien francais - http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/sadeyes.gif - mais non, je ne le pense pas. C'est un acte plus brutalement. Il y avait déjà les discussions de cette thème concernant SH3.

I have to admit, I was very disturbed at that scene in U-571 when they shot at the lifeboat. In all the time I have studied ww2. I never heard of U-Boat commanders shooting at men in lifeboats and killing them. Sure they would attack without warning, and machine gun the ship to sink it and men got shot that way, they would sometimes not even lift a finger to help the survivors not even so much as point them in the right direction of land. But not shooting a lifeboat!! I found that very very hard to believe. Unless of course, I am grossly mistaken!

I think there was a discussion about this here a little while back, which mentioned one U-boat commander and one of his officers executed after the war. They had shot at floating debris to sink it in an attempt to keep the sinking concealed until they had time to leave the area. While firing at the debris [their claim in court] they killed survivors in the water.

WOW !!! I think this is the first time I heard/read you when you're pissed off.

I agree 100%. Being given the opportunity to blast survivors in the water is tasteless and downright sadistic. If you want to shoot things, then look up the Call of Duty series instead.

Oh, it happens now and then, but not usually here.

K/L Heinz-Wilhelm Eck of U-852 who was executed for shooting Greek merchant seamen from the freighter Peleus, the only U-boat commander hanged for war crimes. We had a good discussion about the moral & ethical issues raised by playing Silent Hunter at all, let alone murdering drowning AI men! (The same debate has occurred in combat flightsims where you can, if so inclined, shoot at 'parachuting survivors' from downed aircraft).

It seems unbelievable that someone from so civilized a country as France should want to do such a thing. Obviously a collabo. Perhaps he should be playing Grand Theft Auto, or maybe Bully?

Incroyable!
