in your opinion, the A 10 HUD is facilitatetd or it's instead near the real one? I mean, when I select air2ground mode, how is it possible that ground target are already designated precisely and that the square around them disappear when they are destroyed? A 10 doesn't have a radar, does it? And why I can't choose different ground targets? Thank you and sorry for the tousand questions... :-)

I believe the reason for that is that they have become laser designated targets by ground forces.
Correct the A-10 does not have radar, however it can detect radar but can only display direction, strength and type but not range.
I am able to switch targets, not sure why you are unable to, which keys are you pressing, and what configuration do you have for Easy Radar, is it on or off?

easy radar is off, I press ctrl+bloc scorr (for istance)... Can I abuse of your knowledge? I'm wondering: air defenses are SAM and other ground enemies, or when I send my wingman to engage air defenses I send him to enemy aircraft?
thanks and blue sky

What is the Diamond?
The diamond is your Target Designator. It simulates that some forward observer has pointed a laser at the object to designate it as a target. Imagine we have some forward troops or recon that is on the ground and has spotted our target. They put a laser on it, and then we see the diamond in the HUD because of our Pave Penny laser tracker. That's the idea anyhow.
Why is it there in some missions and not others?
If the mission designer has set up an ATTACK waypoint and used the TARGET button to mark a particular target(s), then you will see the diamond as soon as you change to air to ground mode (7). If the target is out of the field of view of the HUD it will have an X through it. If you kill the target and there are multiple targets are set up, the diamond moves to the next target, and finally dissapears when you have killed all the marked targets.
Some mission designers might only mark some or none of the targets you need to kill to get mission success, other targets may only be mentioned in the mission briefing.
If there are multiple targets in a mission, you can swap the diamond between them by pressing ' key (depends on your keyboard - anyway it is the same key that swaps airfields when you are in nav return mode).
Is it necessary to lock on by pressing TAB?
All the diamond is doing is showing you where the target is. You still have to attack it yourself with whatever weapon you choose. If you choose a Maverick then you have to lock it on, but if you use gun / rockets / dumb bombs, then you dont.
What is the ATTACK point?
It is a type of waypoint, shown on the map as a triangle instead of the usual circle, in the Mission Editor(ME) . As you fly your route it does not appear any different to other waypoints to you as a pilot. But used in conjunction with the TARGET button in the ME, it will cause targets to be diamond'ed. If the aircraft is an AI(computer flown) one, then it tells the AI when to begin an attack.
Do you have to reach a particular waypoint before you can lock on?
No, but generally the mission designer will have chosen a particular waypoint (nearest to the target) as an attack waypoint. Some missions might have several attack waypoints if there are several targets. Before you fly a mission, look at the map, remember which waypoint is the attack waypoint (triangle) so you know where to start looking for the targets you are tasked to destroy.
You might find there are enemy SAM/AAA defenses or enemy aircraft you have to kill simply to be able to get to your actual mission target, keep your eyes and ears open for threats - the RWR (Radar warning receiver) can help.
In one of the A-10 training missions there is the diamond to show you where to drop your weapon load but in the other using cannon and rockets there is no diamond. As I said above, sometimes the mission has been designed so there is a diamond, sometimes not.

To make your wingman engage enemy aircraft, use the engage bandits command.
To make your wingman attack enemy SAM/AAA, use the engage air defenses command.
Be careful - your wingman can be very stupid sometimes, I have seen them try to attack a SAM/AAA and fly over a nearer SAM/AAA and get killed. Always be ready to issue a rejoin formation command to get him to come back. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

thanks! I've installed the 1.02 patch, and know I've some new simbols on the HUD. Ther's a little cross (I think it's for the cannon)and when I use the bombs I have one circle with a point in the middle very similar to the CCIP pipper, but not solid. Do you know what it is?

If you look at pages 44-45 of the Lock On Reference Manual which can be found in the C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\Eagle Dynamics\Lock On\Doc\lock_on_reference_manual.pdf file.
You will see samples of different HUD displays for Gun, Rocket, Missile and Bomb modes.
This may help you.

When you have bombs selected, the dashed circle with the point in the middle is a target designator. You can use it to designate a target so that you can use CCRP (Continuously Computed Release Point) bombing.
