While the puzzles have always been difficult to solve, I've never had trouble digesting the actual storyline. I have all the books, I've played all the games, I understand all the events...

With the exception of Yeesha in Uru (and its expansions). She speaks in riddles and I don't understand what she is getting at.

I understand the prophecies, of course.. they end speaking of Anna, Gehn, Atrus, Catherine, Yeesha (and 'the daughter of the daughter'--Yeesha's child, I assume).

Yeesha fulfills the role of the 'grower.' Apparently, this has to do with power over space and time... the ultimate writing ability?

I'm not terribly clear about all that, but I get the gist. What I don't understand is the bahro... Who or what are they and why is Yeesha allied with them?

I know this is to be addressed in the fifth Myst game (assuming the things which have invaded D'ni are indeed the Bahro). Yeesha also speaks, in one of her speeches, about taking sides... I guess this is in reference to 'Yeesha vs Escher' in the finale game too.

But is this the only information we're given, or have I missed something? I feel a little silly. Most people are stuck on puzzles, but I'm stuck on the story! Anyway, any thoughts, theories, or information would be appreciated.

(Feel free to contact me on AIM or MSN (bozistheboss and bozistheboss@hotmail.com are my SNs respectively) if you want to discuss this at the convenience of chat--or e-mail--rather than via boards.)

bozistheboss, you have a pretty good handle on the storyline. As far as the 'taking sides' Yeesha spoke of, unfortunately that was part of the storyline of Uru Live that they had to leave behind. If I'm not mistaken, there were to be differences of opinion between the DRC, who were restoring the cavern, and with Yeesha and those that followed her.

The Bahro, or as Yeesha called them "The Least" were exploited by the D'ni. Part of the downfall of the D'ni was their pride, but also that they just took, without giving back. Most of this comes from Yeesha's speechs in Uru ABM.

I hope you enjoyed Uru. Hopefully my answers help a little.

I see.. so the Bahro are the D'ni 'reliyhma' (not sure on spelling, referring to the Book of D'ni)? I wonder why they were never mentioned before... or were they only exploited secretly by the D'ni corrupt? (as evinced by the secret slave chambers in the mushroom age--it's late and the name of the age has slipped my mind for the moment :P) And why does Yeesha choose to pay them special attention?

Maybe I'm getting ahead of myself. I suppose the cancellation of Uru Live has just left a few plot holes. Besides, the introduction of the Bahro is a bit of a curve ball.. I'm having a tough time figuring them into the rest of my D'ni lore. :-P

Well, the final chapter of the Myst series seems to be aimed at finishing the Bahro story on top of everything else. Hopefully, the novel Rand Miller is working on will also embellish on Yeesha's story a bit.

There are two groups of Relyimah (which is D'ni for unseen) - the first are the slaves of the D'ni in Terahnee, the second a sort of secret police in the cavern of the D'ni.

The Bahro fall into the first category (hence the prisons in Teledahn) and their importance to Yeesha arises from the fact that the Bahro can link. The various stones with linking cloths that you find in Uru are referred to as Bahro stones.

Unlike you, I haven't read the books (I've just started The Book of Atrus), but I've read pretty much everything in the DPWR archive - have you come across that yet?

Cheers!

What is the DPWR archive? Is that a website or a location within the game?

I'm a newbie to the forums so I'm slowly learning all of these acronyms. :-)

I'm sure you'll enjoy the books. I really liked them. I wore out the 3 books (covers are cracked, ripped, and bent and the pages are in all sorts of bad shape) over years of reading, so I bought the Myst Reader. :-P

DPWR is the D'niPedia / Writers Ring (http://www.dpwr.net/). They have forums, archives, and a gallery. DPWR sponsors the biweekly "Golden KI" contest.

Looks impressive, thank you! I'm at work right now, but I'll check it out when I get home. :-)

So did Yeesha study their ability to link without books and applied it toward becoming the grower? After all, she does say that the grower 'links at will.'
