Dark Messiah exe. crash , can't start the game

i bought this game over the weekend and installed it on my laptop (from the disk) , singleplayer worked fine, no bugs, or crashes i had no problems with it it was great.(i did not have internet acces, nor did i install the multiplayer, and i did not have steam on my laptop)

laptop specs
dell inspiron 9200
radeon 9700 128 mb
512 ram
not sure of the processor

when i got home from the beach i installed it on my desktop (from the disk) and after that the multiplayer and singleplayer downlaoded on steam. when that was finnished i could not start up single player or multiplayer. i got the mm.exe error, all i could do is send the error report. i had this same problem with the demo but i never bothered to fix it because i knew i was buying the game anyway.

so basically whats happening is , i can't start up the the game, ive looked through most of the posts on here and tried most of the peoples suggestions but nothing has worked so far, if you could please help that would be great

feel free to direct me to any other posts i may have missed.

1 gig of corsair xms pro series ram
amd athalon 64 3000+
BFG geforce 7800 GT OC 256mb gfx card

EDIT: will the patch be able to fix this?
