Finding the Yamato is a tall task. In the stock game you couldn't help but trip over it. In the Trigger Maru mod I've gone through three different careers of various lengths and only seen it once. That was in the Task Force returning from Midway June 6, 1942. All I could do was watch it sail by, I was two far away to shoot torpedoes and I could not surface to give chase with all the Japanese aircraft about.

The Battle of Leyte Gulf is modeled in the game. HERE (http://www.battleship.org/html/Articles/History/Leyte0.htm) is a good article about the battle. On the map below you want to go after Force A, Kurita's task force. It has the Yamato and the Musashi, The best places to bushwhack him are the Sibuyan Sea and the San Bernadino Strait, both going and returning.

The dates are October 23rd thru the 26th 1944.

Have fun and sink them all.

Is there a list of battles modeled in the game? I was near midway at the days of the midway battle, but failed to find any action there. So I thought those battles are not in the career mode.

So if one happens to be near by does it make sense to approach battle areas once news are received about ongoing action?

The Battle of Midway is in the career game and is also modeled fairly accurately. Park yourself at a point about 150 nm Northwest of Midway by June 3, 1942 and wait for Japanese recon aircraft to overfly your position on the 4th. The four carriers will come down the course the aircraft are on.
Coral Sea, May 4 through 6, 1942 is also modeled in the career game. I haven't checked any others and am not aware of a list.

If you wait for PAC or FOX to inform you of a battle, you will probably get there too late to participate. Do the research on the major battles and get into position before they begin.

In the stock game you couldn't help but trip over it.

Perhaps for you. I've certainly found that to be the case with merchant convoys, particularly in the South China Sea/ Sulu Sea/ Luzon area. There's no such thing as convoy hunting in this region, just sit tight, and they'll come to you. Any direction you turn, convoys! I want to get out of here - CONVOYS! Turn off the radar, CONVOYS!!!. AAAAKKKKKKK!!!!

I seem to trip over carriers a lot. Normally Shokakus, I must have six or more to my credit and it's only mid '43. Once near Rabaul I ran into a huge battle group, and managed two Shokakus and four Akitsu escort carriers in the space of probably 15 or 20 minutes. Lined up like ducks, they did.

Haven't ever seen Yamato yet, though I've seen several Kongos and Ises. Managed a Fuso on my first patrol.

One thing's for sure, after I finish this career, it's time for a mod to get rid of these numbers!
