Much as they appear to be resented by some developers (HD2 has no mod tools, no mission editor; SWAT 4 has an SDK but no way to easily use mods), mods clearly extend the life of any game and really enhance it. I don't think mods ever would ever interfere with the marketing of mission packs or sequels, but, they keep a community interested until a new product comes out.

I brought this up at GR.net. I hate to think what would happen if modding was not allowed. It would be bad news for GRIN and ultimately Ubi.

yeah no lie beleave it or Not.
there is still a large group of Moderz
still makeing mods for GR i my self still make
MAPs and been Pushing out Maps that can Be used for Ghost recon 1.0.0.2/// yes the Old 1.0
becuase none of the newer mods worked for 1.0 players i started makeing my mods work for 1.0///
since there is a good 100 or so players left in that Ver
that gos to tell UBI and Grin.. Mods help
even. Old 1.0 players use mods. to keep this game fresh.

No mod tools = disaster...
I dont want another farcry where they promise mod tools and only give a Half **** minimum support and some example models and a map editor.
And i definitly do not want another Raven Shield where they promise an SDK for almost 3 years its coming its coming and never release anything.
or even worse is that they said the SDK will be in the next patcH! and then it just tells you how to setup a mod for the mod folder.

I would love to start modding once again... so I say yes, modding support all the way.

IGOR was a very big hit in GR1. It was a winning formula and I did not hear anybody complain about it. So, in GR3, they should include a modding tool with the game DVD, and not promise to give it to us later. It can be one of the most sought after features in GR3.

If anyone vote no they really should get whacked with a roll of toilet paper.
It should be included with the game. Empty promises for a mod tool in a later release are in many games now.

Definetly, a level editor and tools for people to import their models into the game, if the game is going to be urban cqb in Mexico city atleast let people add content to the game making it more atractive, more...GR http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif.

I would like to have an export-plug-in for 3dsm and photoshop, just like GR1 had.
And a lighting-tool, and a mission-editor.

Modding capability is probably on of the main reasons that the GR1 community has lasted as long as it has.
We're currently determining how SR2005 is going to be structured, and without the current mechanisms available to make GR as open and scalable as it stands now, the SR tourneys and many others just wouldn't happen.
Just give us good 3DSMax & Photoshop support, and this will help make GR3 what it should be.
There's been a lot of talk about the screenshots and gameplay being bad, but as long as the system is open enough, we can make it what we need it to be.

Being a current member of a mod team I can say that my eyes have been opened about some of the people that modded GR originally. There's alot of backbiting that can only be described as "high school girl" like. I used to be 100% behind the mod community, regardless of what engine they were using but at this point I have to say that maybe we'll all be better off w/out these tools. I'm disgusted by some of the old school modders. At this point the only 2 that I'll name that aren't a couple of punks are Harntrox and Prozac. The rest seems to have an innate need to feel superior to the next guy who's modding. It's alot like "short-mans" syndrome............One guy is claiming that his "junk" is bigger than the next guy's.

Unfortunately that will always be the issue, if you tend to spend more time listening to the ministrations of those peddling their wares, as opposed to playing the results of their creations.
I base my assessment of a good map or mod on the enjoyment realised in-game, not by who makes the biggest noises in forums.
Take, for example, Obsidian Edge. You yourself have been making a lot of comments about how good it is, and how everybody loves it. That's fine, by the proof is in the pudding as they say. I've tried it, and didn't really enjoy it that much. Not because it isn't any good, but because it didn't really suit what I was looking for. If I waited for a game that gave me absolutely everything I wanted, I'd never play a game again, because nothing is going to get me exactly what I want.
What I do want is the ability to be able to *try* and make something as closely aligned to my ideal game, and that is where the modding tools are so important. Enabling the player to extend the life and capabilities of the game engine as much as possible to suit their own ends.
