View Full Version : Track Viewer?

Has any of the "Brainier types" out there thought about designing a "enhanced" trk or ntrk viewer program?
This would be my request:
1. A track viewer with forward/ reverse capabilities via a slider bar. (no forward or reverse buttons nesessary... all I want is a slider bar).
2. (Might be a tall order) But it would be great if we could get rid of Speed bar, Hud Log, aircraft Icons, Pilot chatter, and connnection bug info on our screens when we view our tracks.
3. Still retain the ability to select different views when reviewing our tracks.
4. (Another tall order) The ability to jump into any aircraft's cockpit when reviewing tracks.
5. The ability to capture from this viewer with Capture software such as FRAPS.
6. Perhaps most importantly, the ability to incorporate some or all of these features without infringing on Oleg's copyright on his software.
I for one would be willing to pay for such a program, if it could be written, and I'm sure I'm not alone in my feelings on this. I am running IL-2FB+AEP+PF, and it's a great sim, but it still helps to run Hud log and aircraft icons on my little 17 inch monitor. (No TrackIR also)

Not asking for much are you? http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
Don't get me wrong...it would be nice to have these features.
Maybe when BoB comes out you might get some of the nice goodies you have listed above. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

You can key mapped most if not all of the items you have listed and just turn them on/off before you start capturing your tracks.

I believe you can do that now by making your mission a coop.
Good Luck

<S!> Thanks for the tip Falcon.... So far, I've only been able to turn off the hud log in the config.ini file though. aAs for the Icons, yes... I'm able to toggle them, and the speed bar. It sure would be nice to use these features to set up the shot though, then disable them before the capture with Fraps.
BTW... I Know it's asking a lot, but hey... we can dream huh? http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I wasn't aware of this..... I haven't been able to get into other planes cockpits so far. Can it be done with opposing forces aircraft also?

hey shaker, what a dreamer! oh the hours that would be saved by having your dream list.
Jumping into other cockpits can't be done once the coop starts. You have to select the plane that you want at the start and stick with it. Be careful with continuity, of course.
The only way round it I found was to fly a mission with other squad mates, then they all sent me their tracks so I could play each of them and frap separately. Use the timer to keep track of continuity, then switch the timer off before frapping.
Good luck, and great to see the enthusiasm. I for one, am looking forward to your first movie (no pressure, mate http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif )

I remember reading on another thread that the .trk and .ntrk files aren't really a 'movie', which is really what you'd need to be able to rewind or use a slider.
A .trk lists start positions for all objects, then renders playback based on control inputs (which is why these files don't play back correctly across different versions).
An .ntrk file actually tracks the position, orientation and activity of objects as they fly around. It would probably be easier to 'rewind' these tracks, but I doubt such a feature would get here before BoB, and even then is probably low on 1C's priority list. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif
I don't see this happening as a separate program. It would have to hook into all the libraries and resources for IL2\PF, which is something developers tend to not like very much and publishers like even less.

Thanks Joe-90. Right now, I'm at the point where I am just testing my technical capabilities, and that of my software. I am running into a little technical problem though. I have purchased Pinnacle Studio Plus 9, and every time I try to import any kind of audio track to dub in with my video, it "clips off" about the last 20% of whatever the clip is... whetherr it's a wave file or a MP3.... doesn't matter. Very Frustrating http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_mad.gif. I have written a rather colorful letter to the people at Pinnnacle, who say the problem should be fixed in the next patch. Obviously, this doesn't do me any good right now http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif. There are features in Studio plus that just aren't available in WMM2,but I just can't use Studio plus the way it is right now.
Deepo has done a great deal to Help me with my Fraps and Vdub questions though, so Things are going along.... even though it's a little slower than I'd like. By the Way...Operation Big Ben http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif Very Well done!!!! I'm in no position to critique it, other than I liked it very much! The Braveheart soundtrack was perfect for the film also. It's these kind of movies that inspire us newbies!Keep 'em coming.

Ahhhh.... That explains it. Thanks Jarink. Oh Well, it doesn't hurt to dream a bit. I remember when I used to fly Falcon 4.0 a few years ago, you could save a ACMI file, and view it from any angle or camera position, but the video wasn't nearly as good as the track files in IL2FB/AEP/PF. It sure would be nice to at least have a way to "rewind" a bit, and get similar shots from different angles though.
