View Full Version : Poor Graphics, nothing works

I have run IL-2 on an Xp machine for years. I have an Fx-62 processor and dual SLI 8800GTX superclocked's. Since my upgrade to vista 64 the graphics look terrible. The gameplay is as smooth as always but even the water looks block and as if i was running it at lowest quality settings, which I am not.
I am running it open GL, in the nvidia settings I have disabled SLI for this game, and allowed all settings to be Application controlled by IL-2. Older drivers don't work either. Is there a simple setting or conflict here I am missing?

As a start, Check that Extension limit is set to off in the profile you use for il2 in the Nvidia control panel, if it's set to on the game can't render perfect mode. Also worth checking that threaded optimisation in the NV control panel is set to off as well, if it's set at auto or on it kills frame rates with this game.

Thanks for the advice but they did not seem to have any effect. I would post a screen shot but the screen turned out solid black. I have tried running in different compatibility modes etc..The graphics just don't change no matter what I do. They look awful. So, back to square one I guess.

Hi again Doug,
This is probably a daft question, but you have run the Il2 setup and selected The Nvidia card setting in there?
Post the contents of your Il2 conf.ini in this thread, it often shows if something been over looked.
I think vista can do dxdiags so posting that may help isolate your problem too.
Il2 will work with SLI and Vista so it will be a fixable problem.

I had a thought, did you install the game the default program files/ubisoft/il2 directory?
I don't have Vista but I think that it makes any files in the program files directory read only, so it would explain why you get no improvements no matter what you alter. You could try uni-stalling the game and then reinstalling it but not in program files, say c:\games\il2 or something similar.
I might be wrong about this, so could anyone who uses the game on vista say if I might be on the right track or not?

You are correct Sir. Also turn off UAC

I have had UAC off since I installed vista. I installed IL2 to it's own folder on the desktop as well.
Here is what happened in short. Some corruption in the Forceware I was using was forcing it to run in 16-bit~! I have since changed forceware and it looks good. Now, I am having system crashes every other day or so. I attribute to the latest forceware. Thanks for the help~!

Please tell me you did not install the entire game to a folder on your desktop! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gif
You should never put large files on your desktop. How long does it take to boot your computer...10 minutes?
Anything on the desktop will be loaded to ram at boot for quick access. Create a folder called Games on your C: drive and drag the entire folder there. Just get it off your desktop.
You should only ever have shortcuts on your desktop. Always put folders elsewhere. Your hard drive and Ram will appreciate it!
