TMO 1.8 BETA June 1945....Sea of Japan

Although the Mark 16 torpedo was never used in combat, I purchased two of them(1200 renown each) since this is prob my last patrol of this career, will prob make it back just before end of war.

So after entering via the Tsushima straits(trying out FM mine detecting sonar, somewhat works, lags my game though) found a convoy heading for the strait on June 28.

After chasing them for 3 hours and setting up, moved in.Due to escort screen(four escorts, two DD's and two Kaibokans), closest i could get was 2200 yards, longer than I would like but suitable.Salmon class has four forward tubes...fired one Mark 16 and one Mark 14 at a Hakusika Maru and , and one Mark 16 and one Mark 14 at an Akita Maru.Hakusika was in closest column, Akita in second closest.

The two fish heading for the Akita crossed the Hakusika Maru's bow, it began an evasive manuver towards me, but was too late, the two fish I fired at it were already close....the Mark 16(which i fired 5 seconds before the Mark 14) hit it nearly dead center, blowing it in two pieces, large explosion. The Mark 14 hit just behind the bow.

The other two were on target but the Akita managed to evade them barely since it turned away from the fish instead of into them.Oh well.

Wish Mark 16's were cheaper or free lol...would be great to take a full load on patrol.

Yea, I save plenty of points for the day I can buy them and fill my boat up, realistic or not.
6 of them will sink the Y.

When it came to the mark 16 i had two options where following history was concerned. Remove them or make them expensive enough as to discourage their use. Obviously i chose the later. They just seemed like too much fun to me to remove entirely. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

yea, you made a good choice ducimus.I am usually kind of a hardliner on historical things but have no problem making this exception lol.

I once( one of my first late war TMO careers months back) scored hits on a carrier from 11,000 yards...three of six hit...on manual targeting...was great..last i saw of her she was listing badly...planes and DD's lept me down for 13 hours(gametime)..never got credit...found it amazing since it was daylight and they had plenty of time to spot and evade, thus the reason no all hit.It was cool though.

I am try to modify the renown cost to zero after May of 45 or so.

You jsut can't be a high speed torpedo packing nearly 1000 lbs of torpex with a range of over 11,000 yards...just great.

I ruined an entire TMO cruise with a horrendously expensive half load of Mark 16s. Ten duds later I was headed back to port for some real torpedoes. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/disagree.gif It was not a pretty sight! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif

I've had a few with M18's, but never with a 16 and I save and carry full boats of them. I did see one go circular...hate my sub to get hit by one of thos.
