TMO 1.8 BETA June 1945....Sea of Japan
Although the Mark 16 torpedo was never used in combat, I purchased two of them(1200 renown each) since this is prob my last patrol of this career, will prob make it back just before end of war.
So after entering via the Tsushima straits(trying out FM mine detecting sonar, somewhat works, lags my game though) found a convoy heading for the strait on June 28.
After chasing them for 3 hours and setting up, moved in.Due to escort screen(four escorts, two DD's and two Kaibokans), closest i could get was 2200 yards, longer than I would like but suitable.Salmon class has four forward tubes...fired one Mark 16 and one Mark 14 at a Hakusika Maru and , and one Mark 16 and one Mark 14 at an Akita Maru.Hakusika was in closest column, Akita in second closest.
The two fish heading for the Akita crossed the Hakusika Maru's bow, it began an evasive manuver towards me, but was too late, the two fish I fired at it were already close....the Mark 16(which i fired 5 seconds before the Mark 14) hit it nearly dead center, blowing it in two pieces, large explosion. The Mark 14 hit just behind the bow.
The other two were on target but the Akita managed to evade them barely since it turned away from the fish instead of into them.Oh well.
Wish Mark 16's were cheaper or free lol...would be great to take a full load on patrol.
