View Full Version : Request: pick up TNT and throw it

Is there a mod or can someone create one where any player can pick up the TNT (explosive pack) the Engineers lay down?

It is very annoying on Assualt maps when an engineer makes a suicide run at the flag and throws down a bunch of explosive packs. Even after you kill the engy, you just have to sit there and wait for the packs to blow up. It would be great if you could just pick up the explosive pack and throw it like a rock or a grenade.

I think this should be in the next patch (if there is one coming). This should be permanent in all the maps on all the servers.

I think this would help gameplay a lot.

Thank you,
StreakEagle

I do believe Freestyle Productions' Entity Xpansion Pack will do that. I've never tried it out though.

it should be like in wolfenstein, in order to set a bomb, u must arm it, instead of dropping packs.

You still have plenty of time to deactivate the flag and run before getting blown up. So I would say making the explosive moveble wouldnt change game play at all. The fact that your scared to deactivate the flag but willing to try to move a bomb doesn't make sense. In this case they are virtually the same thing.

Just thinking out loud here.
How about going prone on a bomb and taking one for the team? Too bad damage cannot be blocked like that.
Maybe have a bomb deactivation routine with two or three turns of the wrench.

This is kind off OT but in response to last post:

Reminds me of the modified UT engine they used for America's Army. Having actually gone on my clan's server and tested this, you CAN lay down on a nade and block damage. I plopped down on one with 3 clanmates standing around me, one person got injured but no one else died except me. If you can do that with the UT engine, I imagine it wouldn't be that hard to mod FC to do it, too.

this is how i see it also:

if you are unwilling to touch a flag with bombs around it, why the **** are you willing to move the bombs that are around the flag?

and if you could throw bombs, know what i would do?

i would set one on the ground for 8 seconds, and then throw it so that it explodes on impact.

imagine that mayhem: essentially a grenade with 5x the power. yeah, that wouldn't be unbalanced or anything http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif

I like that idea. I used to play Wolfenstein a lot, but I forgot they armed the bombs like that.

That is a good point. But you would have to be within throwing distance of the flag and in most cases the enemy would see you and shoot. Plus, an engineer would not be able to throw down 5 TNT packs within 10 seconds. Making it a less effective method of capturing a flag. But throwing a TNT pack would create new problems.

So throwing a TNT pack may not be the best solution to eliminating the suicide runs.

If anyone has some more ideas, please share them.

If you were going to change the way they work my vote would be for Coops defuse idea.

Gives a defending Engi a dilema, defuse bomb as a sitting duck for most attackers or let it go off while you defend or build a more critical area.

As for throwing them (on offense http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/icon_twisted.gif), dont they have physical properties that could be played with or is it a different routine called when you throw a grenade.

Another thought would be to have a selection in the equiping menu screen.

Option 1 Standard Sticky
Option 2 Short Fuse (5 secs)
Option 3 Proximity Fuse (Anti personnel, does not harm buildings)
Option 4 Remote detonation

Not sure how that would effect the balance for Off/Def you were trying to reset?

In short. Yes this is possible. And not even too hard to implement.

Problem is that it requires modding in server and clientside code. I hardly believe that this has enough to become very popular mod. After all server must run it and also all connecting clients mus have it too. It is possible to include this kind of feature in some mod. I would however use other means to balance bombs like requirement to arm them.

Using sticky bombs as offensive tactics on flag is just part of the game. Just kill the engineer before he gets anywhere near.

That is why I said it should be in the next patch (if there is one coming).

Yes, but Engineers should not lead an attack. Their role is to support the soldiers. How often do you see a sniper lead an attack?

In the real world it is the engineers or sappers as they used to be known, that go in ahead of the main battle group to clear the way, removing barbed wire, creating paths thru minefields etc.

Okay back to Far Cry, I doubt that the original design anticipated the stickies being used the way they are, but that is humans for you, adapt and evolve. However, for me engis were definately meant to be in and around the flag, why else give them smoke grenades?
