I've been playing the game for a week now. Today, I (somehow) went from the Mushroom place to a rotating building. After wandering around, I realized that I couldn't figure out what to do here and used the linking book to get back to the island. I made it there and went to the single book in the right bookcase to see if I had tripped into another age. When I opened the book, Uru crashed. And now, no matter what I do, Uru only gets to the white entry screen with the PLAY button and it crashes. A Program Error message is generated that reads "UruStup.exe has generated errors and will be closed by Windows. You will need to restart the program. An error log is being generated."
I am so cheesed off! Of course it's the weekend and Tech Support is closed. I'd like to uninstall and reinstall the program but I sure don't want to have to do all this over again. Does anyone know where the data for a particular game or player is stored in the file structure or if it would be left behind after an uninstall?

A possibly silly question:
1) Have you rebooted your PC since this happened? It's my personal way to make sure it's the software and not the PC. Amazingly enough, rebooting the PC often solves my problems. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

If rebooting doesn't work, your saves are in X:\Program Files\Ubi Soft\Cyan Worlds\Uru - Ages Beyond Myst\sav (where X is your drive letter)

Hi,
Figured out that the SAV folder was probably it. Copied it and uninstalled Uru.
Insured that all drivers were the latest. My video card is a ATI Radeon 7200 so I upgraded the driver.
Reinstalled the game. Have not applied the update yet (was considering the possibility that the problem was there - too many years of Windows, I guess).
Replaced the sav folder. No go. Same results.
Removed the sav folder. Rebooted and restarted Uru. That puppy came right up and I just started all over again. So far so good. Tonight I will apply the update.
MY Odd First Attempt -- What I discovered as I completed the Cleft last night is that the first time that I played this, I didn't complete the Cleft but somehow 'fell' through the tree after only 4 Journey cloths. I did not go through the door. Did not collect all the Journey cloths. Did not complete the puzzle where Yeesha comes. And Zandi only spoke to me twice, even though I came back several times. Truly odd. Have no clue why but in case anyone else has experienced this, you are not going nuts (at last, that's my story).
Thanks for the response. I'm off to adventure.
